Classic Gnome from Ubuntu 10.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 17, 2011
Hi I recently upgrade to 11.10 and I like unity but I always loved gnome the way it was back in 10.10 and 11.04, So knew that Gnome wasn't pre-installed in this release, so I tried to re-install Gnome. So once selecting it as the environment to use in LDM, it loaded and it wasn't the GNOME like back from 10.04-11.04. I am aware that Ubuntu and Canonical customize GNOME to the way it was back then. What I would love is if I could keep 11.10 because of the program upgrades and stuff like that, But be able to get Gnome back to the way it used to look without downgrading, is this possible in any way?
Thanks in advance.
[SOLVED] Trouble upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 8, 2011
Hello, I am running ubuntu 10.04 on an emac powerpc. I go to the update manager and click on 'Update to Ubuntu 10.10', and then it starts the update and everything goes well until step 2 which is setting new software channels. It displays the error message:
W: Failed to fetch httports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/maverick/Release Unable to find expected entry partner/binary-powerpc/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
,E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
So if someone could help me out that would be great, thanks for your time.
Edit: above it displays a smiley face because I had : and p together...sorry it is supposed to be : p (no space) not a smiley face

Permission denied copy files from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 26, 2012
I run Ubuntu 10.04 on my primary machine. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and also Debian (not sure the version, but current) on a second machine (dual boot). I can transfer files from my 10.04 machine to the second machine when running Debian. But when I try to transfer files from my 10.04 machine to my other machine when running Ubuntu 12.04, I get an error message that simply says, "Permission denied." On both machines I have set directories up for sharing with guest access on both machines. I also have no problem transferring stuff to and from my 10.04 machine and my 10.04 laptop or my wife's Winders box.
Can someone point me to instructions on how to fix this?
Printer sharing from Ubuntu 10.04 to Mac OSX
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 4, 2010
So I have a Ubuntu box with a printer trying to share it's printer with a Mac using cups over ipp. Has anynone else had trouble with this?
At first the printer would be stuck in the busy state according to the Mac. Any attempt to change it's state would only work for a split second. Then I found on the ubuntu help site (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ne...tingWithUbuntu) a command the run on the Mac,
This works temporarilyand allows printing, but then it fails again some time later, seems to last only to the next restart (which isnt a long time for a laptop).
Any help at all would be appreciated,

By the way, under sources, I selected "Server for the United States".
