I have installed Squid and configured Yum to use it as a proxy - this works when fetching repo data - I can see it in the Squid access logs.

ubuntu squid proxy redirect to another proxy pac.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 16, 2013
Currently right now i point my Firefox to a proxy server with a pac file to get out to one site. The site requires auth.
Due to my kids getting older i want to implement a net nanny type of solution. I've gone with DansGuardian. So I setup Ubuntu in a vm with squid and Dansguardian.
So that's good and all. The question I have is that the initial proxy settings i have setup in firefox for the one specific site. Is there a way to have squid point to that pack file. So when PC A surfs to that site, squid then redirects to that other proxy.
Any help would be great.

Squid Proxy & SSH help please.
- date: March 23, 2009
This is my current setup..
Client PC ------ Router ------ Proxy Server ------ SSH Server/Tunnel ----- Internet
Intead of using putty or any other local client side ssh software, I am running a Proxy/SSH server where the client connects to the proxy who then forwards the traffic to the SSH tunnel socks proxy. I have most of this complete, however am experiencing some issues that I am unaware if it is a Squid or SSH problem/limitation.
Both Squid and OpenSSH is running on the same server. For testing purposes I am using this method to determine if it is possible..
I begin by running SSH
ssh -D 1234 [email protected]
The client PC browser connects to the proxy using the servers local ip 192.168.2.200 port 3128.
And squid routes that traffic (cache_peer) to 127.0.0.1 port 1234 (to the SSH tunnel proxy)
With this setup it appears to be working, only partly... I am recieving this error when browsing websites (below).
So I know that it is at least trying to resolve the
How do I prevent SSH tunnels through my squid proxy?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 11, 2008
I'm running squid/dansguardian on our corporate firewall, and am now researching the SSH tunneling tools available. We currently only use basic authentication, getting ready to switch to NTLM authentication.
Is there a way to prevent users from tunneling through my squid proxy server? If I can't block it with squid, can I do it with something like snort, fwsnort, etc.?
Squid Proxy Problems
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 24, 2008
I have an ssh connection from my host here to my host at home. My home computer is a Ubuntu server 8.04 box. I have forwarded port 8080 (via putty) through my SSH connection from this host to my Ubuntu server box at home.
I have squid installed on my host at home, the only two changes I have made to the default configuration file are.... Ive added the visible_hostname variable so squid will start and Ive changed the http_port variable that squid uses by default (from 3128) to 8080. Then I rebooted the host completely. Now,
I have set up Firefox to use the proxy localhost:8080 (which should work because im port forwarding localhost:8080 so it goes to my box at home and pops out there, through the use of putty).
I can not seem to forward data thro my proxy at home.
