Clementine only works in Gnome?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 6, 2011
I'm a big fan of xfce as well as the Clementine music player. After upgrading to Natty my files will play fine using Clementine in gnome, but when using it in xfce it skips over every file no matter what the extension.
I can't understand what the difference could be -- the drive the media's on is mounted, the library exists but no songs will play! It wouldn't require a different backend under xfce would it? Or...any different gstreamer lib files? Any ideas?
Karmic: mp3 playback only works in Rhythmbox
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 8, 2009
Whenever I try to play my music, I have to use Rhythmbox, because when I use Banshee (my favourite player), I get this message:
[Info 14:03:59.004] Running Banshee 1.5.1: [Ubuntu karmic (development branch) (linux-gnu, x86_64) @ 2009-10-19 15:42:39 UTC]

[Info 14:04:06.694] nereid Client Started
[Error 14:04:14.668] GStreamer resource error: NotFound
GStreamer resource error: NotFound
This is strange, because RB does playback just fine. Any suggestions?
Unity only works in 2D mode
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 7, 2011
I've recently upgraded to 11.10 and found that I am unable to use Unity unless in 2D mode.
When loading Unity, it brings up the wallpaper, titlebar and the menu on the left of the screen, but then remains totally unresponsive. I cannot click anything and keyboard commands such as bringing up a terminal do nothing. However, everything seems to run fine in 2D mode.
I am reasonably confident this is not a hardware related issue, but I can provide more specific hardware details. I ran the unity support test which returned the following.

[SOLVED] Passwordless SSH only works on 1 of 2 machines?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 16, 2010
I have setup password-less SSH on 2 machines the same way, but it only works on one.
2 remotes :-

B : 192.168.109.17

ssh public key authentication only works when already logged in
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 7, 2010
I have an ssh (OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2) client A and a server B set up for public key authentication as described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSH/OpenSSH/Keys.
The problem is the following: ssh asks for a password when connecting from A to B without any other ssh session going on between A and B; but if I connect from A to B whenever there is another ssh session between A and B, either I get prompted for the passphrase I used to encrypt the private key or I get logged automatically.
I already checked permissions on B: .ssh is 700 and authorized_keys is 600. I already tried "StrictModes no" in sshd_config. Printing debug information using DEBUG3 does not any useful insight. Moreover, there is no /var/log/secure (is it supposed to be there?)
Right now the computer is far far away from my reach, but when I configured the system I noted that whenever I was locally logged to B and then ssh'ed from A to B, I was logged in without any problem; whenever I was
[SOLVED]ssh autologin only works when im logged in
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 1, 2011
Ok, so i have setup auto ssh login for my server.
And it works, but only when i have a active connection.
if i use "ssh server.com" it asks for my password.
If i then open a new terminal and issue "ssh server.com" it logs right in.
I really don*t understand whats wrong.
I have tried setting up 2 virtual machines on my local computer and with the same setup it works fine.
my home folder was encrypted, so when no users were logged in the home folder was unmounted
Resume (from suspend) only works 95% of the time
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 10, 2013
I installed Linux Mint Mate 15 x64 (based on Ubuntu 13.04) choosing the "encrypt home dir" option.
So my swap is encrypted as well. (configured automatically by the installation)
Sometimes when I try resume the laptop's screen doesn't turn on. Resume from suspend only works 95% of the time.
Moving the mouse and pressing any buttons (incl function keys) does nothing. I have to do a hard power off.
Investigating Resume Settings
(I have obfuscated my UUID's below, using a different letter for each unique UUID)
 % cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
 % sudo blkid
/dev/mapper/cryptswap1: UUID="B" TYPE="swap"
as you can see the UUID in my resume file does not match my cryptswap1 UUID. (neither does it match any of my volumes listed by blkid)
I ran the command "ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid" and the UUID specified by the resume doesn't match
Bridging a bond (802.3ad) only works when stp is enabled?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 21, 2009
For redundancy I've created a 802.3ad bond on a server (Debian Lenny). This server will be a host for several virtual (KVM) servers, so I created a bridge on the bond. The strange thing (that took me hours to figure out) is that this bridge only works when I enable spanning tree protocol (stp) on the bridge. Is that normal?
Normally I don't use bonds, and I create the bridge on the interface directly. I never have to enable stp when I do that.
This is the relevant part op my /etc/network/interfaces:

Ethernet only works if the computer is started with the cable plugged in. If I unplug it after starting and plug it back in, Ethernet does not work.
