Command to list all hostnames in local network?

Hi all,
Please let me know if there is a command to list all the hostnames of the computer in a local network.
That is similar to the case of Windows, when we enter Network Places, we can see the name of all other machine in the network.

I know you can get the system to show you a particular user's groups by typing 'groups <username>' as root. How can you get the system to print out a list of all the groups on the system? I think I know how to do it on gnome in the gui, but I want to know how to do it from the command line. Does anybody know?

to be specific, not the users that are currently logged in, i want a command that lists all the users which have been created(including that ones created by softwares or OS itself) and i do know that it can be found by /etc/passwd...but i want a command.............

I was wondering if I can display hostnames on my local network.
If I type in a command " sudo arp-scan -l " it will show me the list of IPs and addresses. However, it would be nice to know which users they belong to.
