[SOLVED] Another one . . . . telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 2, 2011
CentOS release 5.5 (Final)
I'm not new to linux, but very new to networking. I apologize. I'm sure there's prob an answer, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
I have this expect script:
"telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused"
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 4, 2013
I am running Suse enterprise linux 11. I created a new LDAP instance but it fails to start, and is complaining about the port.
Nothing is listening on the specified port. So I tried to telnet the port on localhost and I get the following error:
>telnet localhost 389
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
I can't telnet to any port on the local machine. I checked in Yast that the firewall is disabled, and I am pretty sure that Selinux is not enabled.
I have seen other threads similar to this but none of them quite answer my question.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

KVM problem(unable to connect to '/var/run/libvirt/libvirtsock': Connection refused)
- date: July 1, 2010
I going install and use KVM-based VPSes on my server (Ubuntu 10.04).
So i installed this:
#sudo aptitude install build-essential
#sudo aptitude install ubuntu-virt-server ubuntu-vm-builder bridge-utils virt-viewer
#adduser `id -un` libvirtd
(did it for `root` and `lorddaedra`)
and try check, if it work or not:
#virsh -c qemu:///system list
and I get this message:
/home/lorddaedra # virsh --connect qemu:///system list
error: unable to connect to '/var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock': Connection refused
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
guides I used:
Is it bug? Should I post it to http://libvirt.org/contact.html ?
I activated debug:

I've been battling with this issue for 2 days and I've not been very successful, just yet. I'm simply unable to ssh to even my localhost.
Here's what I've been trying out.
1. Firewall issues: 1. Turned ff the firewall via the UI firewall manager as well as the CLI (IPTABLES commands here https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverg.../firewall.html)
2. checked, re-checked andupdated my openssh-server.
o/p: apt-get install openssh-server
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
openssh-server is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
3. Eve tried changing the port no from 22 . still, unable to connect.
1. ~# /etc/init.d/sshd restart (OR start)
bash: /etc/init.d/sshd: No such file or directory
However, there's a file called ssh in the same path
So, I tried starting it(SSH). Then did a pgrep SSH(gives the no) but pgrep SSHD returns nothing.
My predictions: 1. SSH is
