location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 3, 2015
I am trying to hack a wifi router using ubuntu but unfortunately I am unable to do the same because whenever I write this code airmon-ng start wlan 0 or airmon-ng I am not able to see my wifi adapter listed under interface chipset driver and I am doing the whole thing using virtual box.. And also please mention the process in step wise... I think I have to connect my virtual box to my wifi adapter but I don't know how & I have tried to connect my external wifi adapter to my virtual box but I have received only failure...
BlackUbuntu or Kali Linux?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 16, 2013
Hello fellow Ubuntu users, I have been doing some penetration testing with my BackTrack 5 r3 distribution(strictly on my own network in controlled conditions ). I was 90% satisfied and it did the job. But in meantime Kali Linux, a direct descendant of BackTrack was released and I wanted to try it, unfortunately, I had no time for it and I have also discovered that another pen testing OS exists and it was Black Ubuntu and as I've heard it's still pretty much beta. I am asking if someone has tried either both Kali and Black Ubuntu or just one of them, to kindly let me know which is a better solution for pen testing. If you encountered any bugs, glitches and your overall impression.
Thank you, any information would be useful.
My regards, stay brutal.
Kali Linux security
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 31, 2013
I have recently been pointed in the direction of Kali Linux, and thought it was interesting. The only trouble is that after reading the "What's New in Kali Linux?" page, I could not help but wonder if Kali is as secure as Backtrack? Kali had this to say:
Our new streamlined repositories synchronize with the Debian repositories 4 times a day, constantly providing you with the latest package updates and security fixes available.
This is why I am questioning it's security. Usually when you conduct penetration tests, you want to remain anonymous, and not be sending out Debian package requests telling the whole world where you are and breaking your "stealth" mode. Maybe I misinterpreted, but I would very much appreciate it if someone would be able to enlighten me on this issue.
Which Desktop Environment is used by Kali Linux?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 16, 2013
Which Desktop Environment is being used by Kali Linux? I think it is a Gnome 3. But in the upper left there is "applications" and "Places". In Ubuntu I installed the Gnome 3 Classic Mode (gnome-shell-extensions) but then I only got the normal Gnome 3 with "Activities".
How do I get the better Desktop used by Kali?
I know Gnome Session Fallback in Ubuntu. But this one looks black in Kali, like Gnome 3.
Kali Linux overheating!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 28, 2013
Hey guys, hope you all doing good
Problem: my laptop (HP dv6000) is being overheated cause of fault in the graphic chip (Nvidia).
anyways i'm looking for a way too reduce that over heating i've been searching around for a while now and i need your help to suggest a power management tool (an advanced one) that will enable me to reduce the power consumption by the CPU which will lead to reducing its frequency and heat or a tool that will allow me to reduce my CPU frequency (cant do it through the BIOS). I'm searching for anything that will help to reduce the overheating.
Notice that I'm facing this problem not only with Kali i also faced it with Backtrack and Ubuntu also Win.
Any help would be appreciated,,
Thanks in advance .

installing Kali Linux over Backtrack
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 12, 2013
my current config is dual boot windows 7 and backtrack 5 r3.
due to some changes, i will be now installing Kali Linux over backtrack. But I am not sure if the installation will hamper the Windows 7 boot.
I need to replace backtrack completely (including the grub entry of it) and install Kali Linux with its grub entry along with windows 7.
Installing Broadcom wireless drivers on Kali Linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 1, 2013
Hello I have my drivers in my home folder, but everything I have tried to do has failed on getting them installed. I am not that familiar with Kali, I have used Backtrack 5 r3 for the most part and it already had a wireless manager, so there was nothing to install. I have scanned the web and tried everything i know, if anyone can help me with this I am grateful!
