"General error mounting filesystems" After Crash 9.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 25, 2009
My Karmic Koala system crashed, and now I can't get it rebooted. I get past the Grub menu, then the system gets to showing the little cycling circle (kind of like a clock), and never gets past it.
All the other posts on this error seem to be Grub related, but I'm getting past that.
If I try one of my recovery kernels, I get to a pop-up menu, then a series of messages overwrite the panel at odd positions on the screen. The messages include:
One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted
General error mounting filesystems
I tried booting the Live CD (that's how I'm sending this), and manually running fsck on ALL my partitions. The worst error found was a bad timestamp, which I let it fix.
So I have a small question, and a big question:
Where the heck are boot error messages logged? I can't find anythin,g in /var/log, and had to hand copy the errors off the screen. (Tried sett
[SOLVED] Restore Ubuntu 11.4 after a crash How please?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 16, 2011
The price of a night out[It was my birthday after all]I awoke this morning to find all the computers had been running all night.
Windows was a little cranky but a little bit of poking got it settle.
But Linux Ubuntu is another story- installed on another machine as a dual boot system- it simply refused to respond.
In a normal situation .after POST the screen presents the Windows/Linux selector, click to Linus and a Win error flashes to screen very quickly -too quick to read- then Linux kicks in.
This morning the Win error came to screen long enough to be able to read it read 'in grey [tryhd0.0]then in yellow 'NTFS file error prefix not set.'
Normally as stated this is quick flash on/off This morning however it stayed.
ctrl/alt/del command brought up
'no such device ubuntu/inst/bot grub cfg'
So before I get radical with the hard drive- any ideas how to restore?
how to turn off crash reporting in Xubuntu?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 5, 2013
I'm using Xubuntu 12.04, and when a program crashes, I get the popup dialog alerting me about it. I usually uncheck the option to send an error report, but several times I've forgotten it's there in my rush to make the dialog go away and get back to whatever I was doing. The option is checked by default, but I never feel the need to send a crash report and am wary of sending any sensitive information, so I'd like to either turn that off by default or eliminate the crash dialog entirely. (I'd still like to be able to use ubuntu-bug manually when it's really necessary, however.) The information about the error tracker here mentions privacy settings that don't exist in Xfce, so I'm not sure how to do this. Does anyone know?
Also, does Xfce have any options anywhere for privacy settings? I realized I have no idea how they are set on my system, if they are even relevant to Xubuntu. Thanks!

I've just received a very singolar error message:
Problem in usplash
The problem cannot be reported:
The crash happened in the firmware of the computer ("BIOS"), which cannot be influenced by the operating system.
is there anyone could explain what should be happened to my PC?
I'm a Ubuntu 8.10 user, now I'm testing the very updated last Intrepid beta release.
my kernel is: 2.6.27-6-generic
and my Gnome version is 2.24.0
Can someone tell me what these crazy kernel messages are?

Some background. My system has been crashing consistently since I upgraded to 10.10. I have downloaded 10.04 and I was ready to downgrade as there would be no trace of what made my system crash.
Recently I was reading about the new kernel patch and I did the procedure described here: http://haineault.com/blog/144/
As I was testing the results, my computer seemed to crash again, but this time the mouse kept moving and the keyboard did not stop responding so I waited. At some point, my system returned to normal. After that, I checked my messages file in the system log and I found some crazy lines relating to some kernel panic. Does anyone know what the hell is it?

Crash during installation Error 30
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 8, 2011
I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 i386 to the desktop. The installation failed with following information:
The installer encoutered an error copying files to the hard disk:
[Errno 30]Read-only file system: '/target/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-12-generic'
This is often due to a faulty hard disk. It may help to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to a cooler environment.
I am wondering if there is any other solution that I needn't replace the hard disk. Or the hard disk is only the problem.
I shut down the computer, take out the panels and wait 20 min to cool down.
Re-tried to install and now I get at the beggining of the insallation:
"ubi-partman failed with exit code 141
more info in /var/log/syslog"
rebooted and tried to open a live session, it loads but it stops with the violet background with the cursor.
i can move the cursor but there is no panel or icons, right click doesn't do anything.
