LXer: Ubuntu TV vs. Google TV: Battle of the Linuxbased Smart TVs

Google TV, despite being launched and relaunched with much pomp and expectations, has not quite managed to reach the market it intended to. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to proclaim that the foray of Internet on our television screens previously has been an utter failure. And this, you see, is despite the fact that there are giants like Apple and Google scampering for the top spot.
Can I watch recorded TV on a remote XBMC or Win7 box?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 10, 2011
Sorry - I know google is my friend but I am in information overload here.
I have a mythbuntu 11.04 box that I have set up and after a month of wrenching I got the TV card to work.
Next up - be able to watch the recorded content in the living room. I have found 100 posts on various things but nothing seems to do the trick. I found where they are stored and would love to just navigate to that location over the network on my XBMC but??
If someone could just take a second and point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks - Frank
Need Help setting up XBMC + Tvheadend + live tv working with my Hauppauge PVR350

I Need Help setting up XBMC + Tvheadend + live tv working with my Hauppauge PVR-350 tv card, which the TV card was working with CSMonkey TV Remote before the installation, so I know the TV Card still works, I dual boot with Win 7 and it works with Media Center as well. My TV died, and want to get XBMC with TVHeadend setup so that I can distribute the TV signal to all my PC's in the house, I just choose this setup with XBMC with Tvheadend after reading
I then ran the commands for "Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 & 11.10 - PRE XBMC Eden 11.0 (testing)
1 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexandr-surkov/xbmc-pvr
2 sudo apt-get update
3 sudo apt-get install xbmc tvheadend

I am looking to set up a media PC and originally thought of trying Mythbuntu. This was before Ubuntu announced Ubuntu TV.
I don't know when Ubuntu TV will be released and whether it will be able to install on a regular PC.
So I am debating whether to wait for Ubuntu TV or look at Mythbuntu. Or any other recommended distributions?
I actually will not be tuning into TV, but want to play internet video, physical DVDs and from the hard drive.
Ubu 12.04 + XBMC + XVDR live tv help?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 15, 2012
XVDR Is a live tv plugin for XBMC.
There is no complete guide to install XVDR. (XBMC is allready installed on my system and there are many tutorials for that available).
First of, here is a video what it looks like, its just amazing, compared to using tvheadend --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej0RMZGTUUc
Here is some kind of guide, but I am missing a folder "/usr/src/vdr-1.7.18/PLUGINS/src/" ,so this does not help me.
Is here anyone that can write a complete guide? Seems like nice program but no one has the ability to tell people how to install it.
Here are couple of links related somehow (do not know what to do with these):
XBMCbuntu and mythtv, TV card not working

I'm trying to get my tv card to work in XBMCbuntu with a mythtv backend and a mythtv plugin to XBMC as frontend. However, when I start mythtv-setup (either with sudo or as my own user), I get ERROR_OPEN when I try to setup my tv card.
dmesg | grep dvb gives the following output:

Any ideas what to do? As I understand it, the card is loading properly but mythtv can
XBMC tv legal?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 7, 2009
I wanted to know if using XBMC Media Player's plugins to watch tv, movies, ect is legal.
My ISP said downloading movies, games, etc is illegal. Would that be the same for XBMC?
XBMC and TV Shows
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 3, 2009
Another quick, and hopefully easy, question.
I've added a source for my movies via the menu and that worked out fine. But If I go into the "Watch TV Shows" section, then to the files section and add a source, it doesn't pick up any media inside any of the folders. I've tried adding the folder with all my tv shows in sub-folders and then it shows some of the TV shows as sections but when you click on each show to go to the episodes, there are none listed. I've also tried adding a folder with only one specific television show and all its episodes directly in that foldder. And when I do that, it doesn't even read that there is anything in there. Funnily enough, if I go into the files section I can browse and see all the files and even watch them. And If I tell a specific episode to be manually added to the library, it shows up in the "Watch Movies" section.

Screen Tearing w/ Live TV on AMD APU A105800K
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 1, 2013
I have searched and search for help on this issue for about a week and a half, and convinced that I seem to be unable to find a concise solution to the problem, I now implore the wisdom of this site for help.
I have mythbuntu running on a rig setup with an AMD "APU" A10-5800K, XBMC running on top of it. My goal is to get audio and video out of the HDMI port with as smooth playback of live tv as possible.
Default drivers actually worked pretty well, as far as I could tell, although because I could find no way to get audio flowing through HDMI, I had to move on.
fglrx from the repository was a disaster. I barely even still had video.
fglrx-legacy from Tomasz Makarewicz worked pretty well, as far as I could tell, but in order to remove a pesky "Unsupported Hardware" logo from the bottom-right of the screen, I had to replace a particular file (control) from a more recent version of the proprietary driver.... and.... for whatever reason, it a
