Ubuntu vs debian + programming

Hey
New to Linux/Ubuntu, can anyone tell me:
1. How far divergent from the debian source is ubuntu, ie was the debian source adopted 10 years ago and has been divergent ever since, or are all the latest ubuntu releases based entirely on the latest debian releases?
2. What is the best language to programme in Linux, QT, C or some other language?

Printer compatibility database? (ubuntu and mac lion(darwin))
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 8, 2011
We have either ubuntu or macintosh computers here.
We can use either as a print server.
We are considering getting a new printer. We want to use the printer
from either ubuntu or mac, regardless of which is doing the serving.
Is there a printer database that could help us to see if there might
be a compatibility issue regarding mac/ubuntu?
FYI: I have long experience using linux but am pretty green when it comes
to mac lion. My guess is that CUPS on the mac will pretty much automagically
handle anything, but I might be wrong.
thanks
Advanced Programming in the UNIX.. vs The Linux Programming Interface: A Lin..
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 19, 2011
I am taking some OS course(C programming and Unix) this autumn and the book used is: Advanced Programming in the UNIX® Environment (2nd Edition).
After reading loads of comments on this(mostly embracing it) I came cross this book which is newer: The Linux Programming Interface: A Linux and UNIX System Programming Handbook
So I was thinking that for the same price I could get the second one which also is more Linux oriented. What do you think? Anyone who read it?
Windows Vs Mac Vs Linux programming abilities
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 15, 2010
Hello,
Windows and Mac seem to be more unified than Linux. Shouldn't Windows and Mac be better at programming than Linux? I use Windows XP, I don't want to try Mac, I use Ubuntu and Puppy Linux in a "Live-USB". I've never taken computer science, engineering, or anything related to computers. So i ask you, which OS is the best for programming and why?
Virtual Oracle Linux with Oracle tools on Ubuntu host to IPsec remote database
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 22, 2012
Hello Ubuntu friends,
I need to use Oracle developer tools on my notebook that is running ubuntu 11.10.
Because Oracle tools are not installable under ubuntu without any problems theres is an idea to run Oracle Linux under some virtual partition under ubuntu.
Have you any idea and reccomentdation how to approach to this problem?
With tools I need to connect to remote database over vpn line or IPsec line.
So Oracle SQL*Net protocol should go from oracle linux partition than over host to the internet connection
( VPN or IPsec ).
do not have any experience with ubuntu possibilities for virtualization.
There is also Oracle solution for virtualization Virtual Box , but I am not sure if this is working under ubuntu and if I would gain any advance according to ubuntu partitioning software?
Thank you for any direction, experience and help.
It is the long time goal to set up this architecture so that I can use stable architecture
for work as for home use. So deeply apreciating any hi
Best distro for programming games?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 21, 2008
I have been programming windows games for some while now(no money in it, just for my entertainment) and while i really want to move to linux, linux seems to have a big downfall in games. Not just playing them, but making them as well, as i havent found any good C++ IDE's and I've never been in a world without directx(though im well aware of opengl). So i actually have several questions:
1. which linux distro is best for programming
2. what is a\are there any good C++ IDE's for linux
3. what libraries would i need to make a fully featured 3d game for linux(graphics, sound, input, ect.)
Thanks,
