X Development Headers in Debian
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 17, 2009
I am having troubles compiling programs that require X. I have installed what I think are the X headers from debian (libx11-dev). I am running Debian Etch, Power PC. Everytime I try to compile a source I get something along the lines of "checking for x... no". Does anyone know the correct package to install for the x headers, or know anything at all that could help me?
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks so much.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS versus LMDE (Linux Mint Debian) 201204?

http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1979 I'm really having to ponder this one? Mate 1.2, when idle, really does use half as much RAM as Unity. That was a surprise, especially since I'm comparing 64-bit vs. 64-bit. I have yet to notice any of the rough edges and quirks that are typical of a Mint release.
Ubuntu vs Debian

Nearly all Ubuntu and Debian users are probably aware that without Debian, there would be no Ubuntu. Debian is the father and Ubuntu is the son. But I've noticed that there are numerous Debian users in the blogosphere that seem to consider Ubuntu the unwanted illegitimate son. Slamming Ubuntu whenever they get a chance. Not necessarily here on these forums, but I've seen many highly negative statements by Debian users regarding Ubuntu on other forums and blogs.
I guess my question is Why? If you're a Debian user who does not like Ubuntu, explain. I'm genuinely curious about the Ubuntu hate I've seen lately. After all, were all Linux users whether it be Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, Slackware, Fedora or whatever.
Ubuntu vs Debian

I am curious just in general, what the real difference between Debian and Ubuntu actually is? I thought they were basically the same, just different Ubuntu specific software installed on a Debian system but I have come across a few packages that stated they would not work on a Ubuntu system but can on Debian. So Im just confused now.
debian terminal vs ubuntu

I'm trying to run an install script in Debian that works fine in Ubuntu. When it asks me to enter the hostname for the install it errors out saying it needs to be alphanumeric, which it is. Is there a difference in the way the keyboard is interpreted between Ubuntu and Debian?

debian vs ubuntu graphic driver
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 7, 2011
Hi guys, after the latest debian release squeeze, I wanted to try out debian, and go back to the roots of ubuntu. But one thing bother's me, debian doesn't do well with my old intel gpu (i865g). But ubuntu always works nicely with my gpu. I'm confused even having updated my mesa drivers and xorg to the latest i still don't seem able to get any 3d acceleration under debian. But under ubuntu its flawless. I know that ubuntu uses custom made drivers, but what i want to know is what part of the driver do the tweak to get it work like that? I don't mind if you guys answer it technically, i would prefer it the most. Because the sole purpose i took up linux is to learn it.
Ubuntu vs Debian. Are both same thing ?

I want to know that does Ubuntu has drived from Debian? For example if some one know Red Hat Linux file and directory structure ,he can do same in Fedora,CentOS. For debian user if he use then Ubuntu then file architecture is same as Debian ?
Debian vs. Ubuntu?

First of all, I would like to state that this in no way is intended to start a flame war, it is simply my curiosity getting the better of me. Please, if I seem trollish, I dont mean to be.
Now that THAT'S out of the way...
What are the major differences between Debian and Ubuntu? As far as I can tell, Ubuntu is a bit better about drivers, and the packages tend to be configured a bit beyond just the default settings. The other thing I can see is the significant lack of effort required to install it, though Debian isn't exactly slacking there either.
I seek enlightenment and nothing more. I'm positive that there are more differences in the underlying software and that I just can't see them.
