Debian Vs. Knoppix Installer.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 21, 2005
It seems that Knoppix makes Debian HD install very easy/convenient. Is this true ? How do you compare a Knoppix HD install to a Debian install from scratch from Debian Cds ?
When installing Knoppix to HD, does one ahve the choice to avoid programs/groups of programs that they don't want or does it install everything ?
install knoppix as debian , VS the real thing?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 13, 2004
ok after ftp installing debian, i am kind of impressed seeing since i actually got it to boot to a KDE envrionment.
ive used knoppix 3.2, and have installed it as knoppix and debian. what im wondering is, if i install knoppix as debian and do the apt-get upgrade (or whatever it is to update the entire distro) would i get the same effect as the real thing?
Ive found that installing knoppix as debian works JUST FINE but debian itself i ran intto problems and the installation time is rather long.
Also, has the sound issue been solved in kernel 2.6 and debian?

debian vs ubuntu graphic driver
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 7, 2011
Hi guys, after the latest debian release squeeze, I wanted to try out debian, and go back to the roots of ubuntu. But one thing bother's me, debian doesn't do well with my old intel gpu (i865g). But ubuntu always works nicely with my gpu. I'm confused even having updated my mesa drivers and xorg to the latest i still don't seem able to get any 3d acceleration under debian. But under ubuntu its flawless. I know that ubuntu uses custom made drivers, but what i want to know is what part of the driver do the tweak to get it work like that? I don't mind if you guys answer it technically, i would prefer it the most. Because the sole purpose i took up linux is to learn it.
Debian vs. Ubuntu?

First of all, I would like to state that this in no way is intended to start a flame war, it is simply my curiosity getting the better of me. Please, if I seem trollish, I dont mean to be.
Now that THAT'S out of the way...
What are the major differences between Debian and Ubuntu? As far as I can tell, Ubuntu is a bit better about drivers, and the packages tend to be configured a bit beyond just the default settings. The other thing I can see is the significant lack of effort required to install it, though Debian isn't exactly slacking there either.
I seek enlightenment and nothing more. I'm positive that there are more differences in the underlying software and that I just can't see them.

[SOLVED] Debian vs. Ubuntu vs Kubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 10, 2013
So, I'm trying to understand the difference between pure Debian, Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
Now, I know that Ubuntu and Kubuntu are basically built on Debian, but what are the major differences? Are they less reliable/customizable? Why would one prefer pure Debian over Ubuntu/Kubuntu?
And is there any major difference in terms of performance or reliability between Ubuntu and Kubuntu? Why would you prefer one over the other, other than desktop environment preference?
The way I see it, and it's my completely unprofessional pure gut feeling, is that Debian is the more reliable and professional OS, whereas Ubuntu and Kubuntu are there just for beginners who want to play around with Linux.
Again, I completely don't know what I'm talking about which is why I'm asking, so how far is my gut feeling from the truth?
Also, is Ubuntu server a serious enough server OS?
Thanks in advance!

1 - I'm trying to understand the differences betwenn debian, slaackware and ubuntu. Why some people prefer debian over the rest, others the slackware, or the ubuntu. What are the differences between slackware, debian or ubuntu?
2 - Sometimes I see packages that are made only for debian, or for ubuntu, and I don't understand why. The code shouldn't be equal to all platforms? After all, we're talking about linux.
Debian Vs Ubuntu for a Server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 2, 2009
So, I'm planning to buy an older PC and turn it into a small webserver running webmin, apache, ssh, and probably mysql. I'm probably going to be buying an athlon era computer if I can, so I might be limited on ram.
I figure it will be very similar running the two as a server, does anyone know any notable advantages/disadvantages? Also, which version of debian would you reccomend I try out for a server?
Debian vs Ubuntu?: Linux Magazine slams Ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 19, 2006
I was just at the book store today, and there is an article in the back that slams Ubuntu and how it is hampering the Debian project.
I didn't buy the magazine, at $10 I thought they were mad.
