[SOLVED] Debian Lenny: sudo seems to ignore changes to sudoers
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 8, 2009
I (a normal user, not root) wrote a shell script but want to grant another user (guest) permission to run it.
As a su, I've edited the /etc/sudoers file and added at its bottom:
guest ALL= (xxx) NOPASSWD: /home/xxx/script_name
where xxx is my login name.
I edited sudoers with visudo, where the environment variable EDITOR=pico.
User root may run the following commands on this host:
so nothing is updated. I also confirmed this: I login as guest and try to run the script as
sudo -u xxx ./script_name
but the system requests a password.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
newsforge article :Debian: Where we should go from here
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 14, 2005
newsforge has this interesting article :
Debian sarge has finally been released -- now what? If you ask me (and you didn't, but I'm going to tell you anyway), Debian should have two overarching priorities for the next release: 1. putting a timed release cycle in place, so what happened with sarge never happens again; and 2. keeping the growing family of Debian derivatives united around a common core -- namely, Debian itself. What's at stake? If we don't do something about both of these problems, actual and potential, Debian will be irrelevant by the time etch is out.
I agree with the time based release cycle.
I don't know much about LSB ...... I assume he's right.
about the common core ... it's great if every package in debian also works in ubuntu and vice versa ..... but this only makes sense IMO if the release cycle of debian is not too long ..... maybe 12 months.

Where do I download Mozilla Firefox for 64bit Debian Linux (Lenny) that Flash works?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 19, 2009
I go to the Mozilla Firefox website, and it seems to insist on downloading the 32-bit version. I am now thinking that Mozilla doesn't build 64-bit Linux versions; does anyone know why that would be the case?
What I have now is some version of Iceweasel 3.0.x on my 64-bit Debian Lenny machine, and it does not display the flash video correctly. I have successfully downloaded Firefox 3.5.3 on my 32-bit Debian Lenny laptop, and it views flash just fine. The flash video I am referring to is at http://www.finewoodworking.com/Skill....aspx?id=32953.
