GNOME3 Staging PPA
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 23, 2012
In addition to the GNOME3 PPA and Rico's PPAs, we have a new experimental PPA for raring which we are using to upload GNOME 3.7:
As Ubuntu's efforts are focused on GNOME 3.6, this PPA doesn't have the same level of quality and testing that goes into the regular GNOME3 PPA. GNOME 3.7 itself is still a work in progress.
I just uploaded gnome-control-center/gnome-settings-daemon 3.7.3 to the PPA. The most obvious regression it introduces is that external panels aren't working (they've never been officially supported by GNOME).
I've also uploaded gnome-shell 3.7.3. When I tested it I saw two major bugs: the user menu in the top right is missing, and using the keyboard to enter text in Shell dialogs (like Alt+F2, authentication prompts, unlocking the screen or the Activities Overview) doesn't work reliably. I reported both those bugs to GNOME but we've not figured out what the root cause is yet.
Unless you like broken things, you probably don't
"Better" font rendering with PPA
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 22, 2011
I recently stumbled upon this site: http://www.infinality.net/
I was surprised that there wasn't a PPA already available, so I did it myself.
Here's the link for anyone interested: https://launchpad.net/~no1wantdthisname/+archive/ppa
Some might call this blurrier, but there are many options to tweak.
[Request] Game PPA sticky
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 6, 2010
I'm looking for a volunteer (or maybe two?) to make a PPA Game list thread which will be sticked to the Gaming forum.
As for now, most games on Ubuntu relies on the PPA system or separated .deb if people are looking for updates - due to Ubuntu's release cycle.
The thread needs:
A short introduction - explaining about the thread and what PPA is.An alphabetically list of the Game PPA - and link.Eventually a link to Playdeb.Layout needs to look good/easy to read.
If you're interested > Send me a PM

HOWTO: Wine Team PPA, New Wine development releases, older versions of Wine
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 27, 2008
To install the Wine package that's already included with Ubuntu, just click this link.
Wine Team PPA
There are two reasons to use the Wine Team PPA: frustration with the included package, and using Wine beta releases. To enable the PPA, follow these instructions. You may be prompted to do a partial upgrade - this is normal.
Wine Beta releases
If the included stable version of Wine doesn't work for the application you want to use, you can try using a beta release instead.
Unlike the stable version of Wine, Wine betas are not substantially tested and prone to regressions. This means that for your application a newer Wine release could be worse than an older one, including the stable Wine available by default.
To get the latest beta release of Wine and receive automatic updates, enable the PPA as indicated above and then install the wine1.5 package.
Very occasionally, you may want to try installing an older Wine into a new Ubuntu. This is something y
JDownloader in Ubuntu 11.10 Beta via PPA
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 5, 2011
I've been able to use this program in the past but can't seem to get it working via command line in 11.10. I followed the commands below...
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jd-team/jdownloader
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install jdownloader
I get the error below.
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jd-team/jdownloader/ubuntu/dists/oneiric/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jd-team/jdownloader/ubuntu/dists/oneiric/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
I'm probably a 4 on a scale of 10 for using Linux. Not sure what I am doing wrong? Do I need to change something on my part?
Ubuntu PPA for musicians and producers
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 9, 2009
Hi there community!
We decided to help non-geek guys (and girls) that need good software out-of-the-box.
We prepared 3 specials PPAs for audio production (apps, plugins and tools).
For Karmic, use philip5 PPA:
For Lucid, use my PPA:
For Lucid, bleeding-edge packages: (*)
The easiest way to install this PPA is through Synaptic.
Open it in System->Administration->Synaptic
Go to Settings->Repositories.
On the 2nd tab, "Other Software" add the PPA code (one of the displayed before)
Then click on the big "Reload" button.
You can check the web pages for a list of the packages available
I maintain a changelog of my main Lucid PPA:
Enjoy making music!
Easier way to check PPA and update URL?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 7, 2010
In order to fix the errors below, after upgrading I would have to visit each ppa individually to determine if it supports my current release/distribution. Is there an easier way to accomplish this, am thinking of a script, but my skills are rudimentary.
