QT vs GTK+
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 1, 2012
I got stuck in a question, need your suggestions.
I am a C programmer but not expert yet. I wish to start learning GUI programming. I got 2 option QT & GTK+, both have pros and cons. people says the QT is the best but GTK+ is widely used, so I got confused.
For future perspective which one should I select to start?
If I select GTK because it is widely used in these days, then I found that QT was developed later than GTK, that's why GTK was used. if this is true, after a few years, we may see QT apps over GTK apps if it is really better.
Guide me what should I do?

9.04 Fresh Install: Unable to download pictures into digikam/fspot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 29, 2009
I've been an Ubuntu user for a long time. I upgraded from Hardy to Jaunty by doing a fresh install of Jaunty (Ubuntu, not Kubuntu) and wiping out my Hardy root partition.
After the install, I had a few problems most of which are resolved except this one. I cannot seem to download pictures from my digital camera using digikam. Nautilus shows that the camera is mounted and I can even see the pictures via Nautilus. Digikam seems to autodetect the camera, but is unable to download the pictures. Digikam simply says that it failed to connect. No error messages. Looking in /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog gave no hint of the problem.
For what it's worth I'm having the problem with Picasa3 and F-Spot too.
This worked perfectly well with Hardy.
Thanks for any assistance,
Linux Dev Issue with Qt and Sudo to elevate privileges to superuser.

I am running into a weird problem with Qt QProcess and I would like your advice on how to solve this. I have build a linux program installer. ( for several reasons I do not want to distribute my program using a package manager)
The installer needs to save icon files(.png) in the /usr/share/icons/hicolor/<icon-size>/apps/ folder and a desktop-entry file in /usr/share/applications. (for both folders, superuser privileges are mandatory on the main distro's)
I am developing the installer with QT 4.8 on (K)Ubuntu KDE-Desktop with kdesudo installed. I am not using kdesudo/gksudo, and neighter (ssh-)askpass function since Fedora, OpenSuse, and CentOS don't support these functions as a standard. I therefore choose to use Qt QProcess and the sudo command (re: security holes I am using QCA Libs and AES-128 for encryption/decryption of the superuser password). -- just in case you wanna slaughter me over this.
On execution in a linux terminal I am asked for the sudo password (my test acc

Ubuntu GTK and Qt in the future
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 27, 2013
is there any official statement about how the transition of Ubuntu to use Qt/QML affect the use of GTK at the desktop? Currently, almost everything (of the Unity pre-installed standard applications) uses GTK. So there will be a lot of work to do, to achieve a consistent look and feel all over the desktop. I know there are plans for a Ubuntu SDK. But Quickly is getting reworked, too.
Imagine all the "core apps" that have to be re-written (i.e., their front-ends).
Having said that, let's look at the current desktop. 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04 ship with empathy as default messenger and it was getting worse and worse with every new release of Ubuntu (same with nautilus). If the Gnome Applications do not fit anymore in the look and feel of the system, Ubuntu should think about to bring their own application (front-ends) that fit into the desktop. For me personally the look and feel is very important. Even when I am programmer.
I am getting a bit angry when I watch at http://
