Can I install Openwrt to a hard drive?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 20, 2009
Can I install Openwrt on a disk partition or a separate hard drive?
The list of supported platforms includes x86 based boards. Is this what
this is for?
What would I need to know before I attempt this? I have some experience
with Linux, but not much with networking.
I looked at: http://www.openwrt.org/
Are there some tutorials for Openwrt that would be helpful for a novice?
Install Ubuntu on external hard drive
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 10, 2014
First, sorry for my average English level, I'm French. Don't hesitate to ask me for more informations if I'm not clear.
So, I have an Asus laptop with Windows 7 Familial 64bits.
For 1 year I had an so efficient dualboot between Ubuntu 13.04 and Win7(C: ) on internal drive(500Go) with a perfectly set exchanged data partition(D: ).
All was beautiful in a wonderful world but I would like to compile Android and that needs a lot of drive space that I don't have on my internal drive.
I have a 320Go external hard drive.
At begining, i made a dualboot with Win7 on internal drive and Ubuntu on external drive, it seemed to works ok but in fact, i had a grub error when I tried to switch on my laptop without external drive connected. I need to be able to use Win7 without external drive when I'm not home.
Next option is to set up BIOS to boot on external drive before the internal one by adding an boot option. But I don't have the "Add boot option" menu. It just appeared once; when

Install Slacko puppy on hard drive
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 13, 2014
I'm trying to install slacko puppy on an old compaq evo n200. It has about 60gb hard drive and 198 ram. It already has windows xp, windows xp backup and xp lite on 3 partitions. My cd drive is noisy and slow so running it off cd is not really practical and there is no boot option for usb.
How might I install linux puppy to hard drive? I'd like to keep one windows option.

Install Ubuntu from slave hard drive
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 8, 2012
I have been reading around for a few hours now and I'm kinda coming up short.
Here's my problem.. A friend asked me to help him with his PC, it appears kinda old, an HP Pavillion 4550Z using windows 98. It was trashed I tried everything and nothing worked so the only option was to wipe it out and start over, except I do not have an operating system.
I have Ubuntu on a flash drive but his BIOS does not appear to allow booting from USB.
I was hoping for a way to put the Ubuntu install onto a slave hard drive and boot from it to install onto the master drive. (slave drive would act like the CD)
Can anyone point me in a direction to do that? I am using windows XP.
Thanks in advance.
Is it possible to partition hard drive without formatting it?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 17, 2011
I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed on my continuous (without partitions) hard drive 90 GB of which is free. I want to create partitions over this 90 GB free space. Is it possible to create partitions without formatting the drive? I don't want to uninstall or reinstall Ubuntu, also all my data is stored in the drive so I don't want to lose it.
Looking for way to install Fedora.iso from hard drive
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 25, 2008
Burner is broken. Have 15 gig partition-ext3 set up elsewhere and Fedora.iso in Ubuntu partition. Building things from source in Ubuntu is just a real mess. Tried to build cutting edge LMMS, then found that Ubuntu's cmake is obsolete and it won't let me build that manually either. You're either best off doing everything yourself or letting it do it all for you, it seems, but then you run into limitations of the distro.
I am getting the impression that Fedora is more geared towards source builds. I have been talking to an LMMS guru who uses Fedora, so I thought that Fedora would be the best distro to use to install LMMS.
Any pointers on how to run this live .iso off of sda3 and install it to empty sda1?
install maxtor USB external hard drive
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 24, 2003
I am looking for directions to attach a maxtor 5000 USB external hard drive to a system running red hat linux exterprise 3.0 WS. This device is formatted with FAT32 filesystem, and will be used to transport data between a windows 2000 system and redhat linux. I have contacted both Maxtor and Redhat, and neither offer support for this, but indicate that "you may be able to get it to work". One catch: we have purchased support from redhat, but their support will be invalidated if we change the kernel in any way. Does anyone have directions for enabling a maxtor USB external hard drive with a FAT32 filesystem on redhat linux?
