DRBD primary primary
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 18, 2009
I am running two Ubuntu 9.04 servers with DRBD in primary primary mode. Both servers mount /dev/drbd1 as /var/vm. On both servers vmware is running.
I see there will be a difference (inconsistancy) between the two /var/vm.
When removing/adding files on one host in the /var/vm this is not replicated on the other host /var/vm.
why is this happening?
Grub chainloader boots from primary, but NOT from extended, partition
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 27, 2008
I have a EeePC901 20GB on which I currently have Xandros and Ubuntu dual-booting happily together.
However, as I have a great interest in the Haiku OS and don't really want to continue running it as a VM, I natively installed it to a fourth primary partition on the 16 GB flash drive of the EeePC.
Perfect, everything works fine with Haiku booting from Grub (the Xandros Grub is in the MBR) without any problems.
Here's the Grub entry I used for Haiku:
Primary partition vs. Logic partition
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 10, 2010
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to linux. I'm currently contemplating dual-boot ubuntu with windows xp. One of the problems that I encounter is the partition.
Could anyone provide some advice in plain language on what the difference between a primary partition and a logic partition is? Why does somebody advice against the idea that make /home a logic partition?
Ubuntu: Installed to external hard drive; boot to primary hard drive gives error 22
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 30, 2007
I found out about Ubuntu and was attempting to install it onto my external hard drive. However, after installing it to the external drive and rebooting to my primary hard drive with XP partition, it now gives "GRUB error 22"(when I am trying to boot up my Primary XP hard drive). My desire was to run Ubuntu from the external drive using Virtual PC 2004 to see if I liked it and to get familiar with it. I can still see my files on my primary hard drive but Ubuntu appears to have changed my boot partition. Any suggestions on how to get my XP drive (primary drive) re-established?
Swap Primary or Extended
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 22, 2007
Is your swap partition primary or extended. How should it be?
I always set up my swap and my root partition as primary, but I was wondering, should I set up swap as extended from my primary root partition, or it doesn't matter whether it's going to be primary or extended?
Ubuntu/GNOME dual monitor setup: Preferring the primary monitor
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 3, 2011
this is the first time I'm starting a thread here myself, because so far I couldn't find answers to my questions elsewhere. Actually, they're very specific and, it seems, unusual.
I'm using a dual-monitor setup with Ubuntu 10.10 ("maverick") and the standard GNOME desktop. All installed packages are up to date. I configured the two monitors side by side, so that they yield a very wide desktop.
One monitor is a 19"/1280x1024, which I consider the "primary" screen.
The other is a 20"/1600x1200 used for special work.
My graphics adapter is a RADEON 9200 PCI with VGA and DVI driven by the open-source RADEON driver supplied with Ubuntu (even though I don't think that matters for my concern).
However, I'd like to operate the system with only the primary monitor powered up, and switch the other on only when I need it. But when I boot the system with only the primary monitor turned on, X will detect only this one monitor, and the desktop wi
VNC issues (10061 error), can't connect to primary display.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 19, 2008
So I've been able to get vnc working other displays :1, :2, etc. Using tight vnc I believe, I can ssh into the box, use scp, etc. So I can get in, but Ubuntu 8.04 is not letting me connect to the primary display no matter what I try. Connecting on port 5800 or 5900 doesn't work like some solutions I've read say.
I'm trying to connect from XP using TightVNC and RealVNC, neither work.
