sha256 not working on Linux 64 bit system
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 27, 2008
I am using sha256 to calculate the hash of a file on linux 32 bit systems. The hash value is stored in the file at the time of file creation itself.
Whenever, we need to access the file, we verify the authenticity of the file, for which we recalculate the hash of the file and match it with the stored value.
This works fine on Linux 32 bit system. This was the history bit!
Now the issue is that the sha256 implementation is not working correctly on Linux AMD 64 bit system. The sha256 generates a different hash value for the same file when called twice.
Can anybody suggest what changes need to be made to help it work fine on 64 bit systems.
Kindly note that we are using in house implementation of the sha256. and for security reasons cannot share the sha256 implementation being used

Macromedia Flash Player for Mandriva Linux 64 bit program
- date: December 9, 2005
I am working with Mandriva Linux 2006 program. It works fine. It is the 64 bit version. I have difficulty in viewing some aspects from the browser. It asks me to install the Macromedia Flash Player. The decompression of the tar
ball worked fine and it created a directory.
I can't install the Macromedia Flash Player. Please read the following:
Desktop]# cd 'install_flash_player_7_linux/'
ERROR: Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Macromedia Flash Player installer.
I just followed the instructions from the following site.
Could you please help me to install the Macromedia Flash Player? Probably

Linux, 64 bit and >3Gb of memory
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 26, 2008
For the last few days I've been trying to install Linux on several PCs, without any success however.
All the systems I use are fine (seen from a hardware point of view). However, I cannot install any Linux version on them, as soon as they are equipped with more than 3Gb of internal memory.
I have tried several distributions: Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64, CentOS 5.1 AMD64, Debian 4.0 AMD64 etc. All the hardware I use does support >3Gb of memory, without using PAE / memory remapping (!). Used CPUs are Intel Core 2 series (E6420, E6600, Q6600). All the systems run fine with 64 bit XP or Vista, so I figure that if a Microsoft product can run fine, Linux should work like a charm :-).
All the Linux versions I tried work on a 8Gb dual Xeon system.
I guess there's some difference in the memory addressing between the desktop and the server systems.
Still, I need to get the desktop systems to work with a reasonable amount of memory (8Gb); how can this be done?

linux 64 bit assembler tutorial
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 19, 2006
I know this is proberly not a good way to learn assembly , but the box i am using does not have -m32 support included , therefore i can only compile 64 bit asm , there is only run time support for 32 bit applications..
I am using this tutorial http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/pgubook/
which is 32 bit at&t asm, i have a freebsd 32bit box, which i could use to learn, or i could create a chroot and install a 32 bit distro.
i know freebsd has linux compatible layer which can i think handle linux system calls.
Does a linux 64 bit tutorial exist? or should i learn 32 bit and then get amd manuals with the syntax.
Also due to the variety of asm that use intel syntax, i am undecided which sytax to learn, i guess it depends on the task.
thanks in advance

The command to copy must include the FULL path of the folder you are trying to copy it to. The command you tried to run was trying to copy the files to a nonexistent folder in your "install_flash..." folder. This was what you were telling the computer to do:
copy /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/install_flash_player_7_linux/flashplayer.xpt to /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/install_flash_player_7_linux/Desktop/firefox/plugins/
This folder does not exist.
What you WANT to do is this:
copy /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/install_flash_player_7_linux/flashplayer.xpt to /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/firefox/plugins/
do you see the difference?
The commands I said before:
[You do not need to include the asterisk (*) ]
cp libflashplayer.so /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/firefox/plugins
[You do not need to include the asterisk (*) ]
cp flashplayer.xpt /home/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/Desktop/firefox/plugins
If these are run while inside the "install_flash_player_7_linu
asus g55vw dual booting linux 64 bit and windows 7 home premium 64 bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2012
i've been tried several times to install linux (bt5 r2) 64 bit to make it dual booting with my windows 7 home premium 64 bit. And windows 7 have been pre-installed in my asus g55vw laptop (republic of gamers - i7 3rd gen gc nvidia geforce gtx 660m).
at first the installation seems to be successful but after i reboot it there is no grub menu and it boot directly into windows.
i have tried several techniques to repair my grub but still failed.
what i think might be the problem is maybe it come from "windows boot manager" that i saw in bios and it appeared as a first boot option
usually in older and other laptop what i saw it should be the harddisk.
what should i do?i really hope that windows doesnt control my boot manager such as using bcedit.. is there any solutions so grub can take control of the booting options?(sorry for my bad english)
i installed by using live usb pendrive not by using cd/dvd
