64 bit Linux for Intel cpu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 7, 2009
I have an quad Intel processor with 8 gigs of RAM.
I have been told that I need a 64 bit operating system
to be able to use all 8 gigs of RAM.
Is there a version of Slackware that is 64 bits and is
NOT AMD, but can be run with an Intel quad processor ?
I should have ignored the salesman and demanded a 64-AMD,
but I was in a hurry, as usual, and had to get back to work.
Now I regret it.

Suse Linux 10.0 64 bit and citrix connection problems
Posted: Nov 6, 2005 10:44 AM
I am running Suse Linux 64 bit software and I cannot connect with citrix server through my home PC with work. The citrix drivers are correctly installed and the citrix metaframe windows tried to connect (because you can see the Windows 2000 Server advertising screen appear), but shortly hangs after that DOS looking black screen appears and opens partially. After that is just hangs with a partially open black screen.
I have installed same citrix drivers onto Mandrake Linux and Thiz-Linux Operating systems and it worked great.
Can you help explain what I might be able to do to correct this problem?

Light weight linux distro for Virtual machine on win 7 64 bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 28, 2011
Hi Guys !
I need your help to decide which lightweight, gui based linux distro to put into oracle virtualbox which i have installed inside windows 7 - 64 bit.
My main requirement is that i should be able to access internet from the linux distro which will be running inside the VM. I already have ubuntu 11.1 on dual boot which seems to be okay as of now. I did have some problems with wifi before. so, I wanted to know the distro in which my wifi will work when i put it inside the VM.
why am i doing this ? I want another distro of linux which i can use directly, without having to turn off windows.
All suggestions are welcome.

Linux kernel exploit roots 64-bit machines
Tom Espiner ZDNet UK | September 22, 2010 8:38 AM PDT
Attackers have used a freely available exploit to target a number of 64-bit Linux machines, according to a Linux patch management software firm.
The exploit is particularly pernicious, as it can leave a backdoor on systems that have workarounds deployed, according to rebootless Linux security update company Ksplice. The stack pointer underflow weakness has been given a common vulnerability code of CVE-2010-3081.
"In the last day, we've received many reports of people attacking production systems using an exploit for this vulnerability, so if you run Linux systems, we recommend that you strongly consider patching this," said Ksplice chief executive Jeff Arnold in a blog post on Saturday. Exploit code was made available on the Full Disclosure mailing list on W
[SOLVED] Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64 bit on Asus Vanguard B85: no USB keyboard and mouse
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 15, 2014
I installed Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 64 bit, on a new system, based on an Asus Vanguard B85 Haswell board, with a Core i7 4770S.
The live USB boots normally, keyboard and mouse are working fine, and the installation on the Crucial M500 SSD finished without problems.
(BTW: I am posting this on the same system, booted from the live USB.)
The system boots off the SSD, shows the login screen, and then both keyboard and mouse are dead. The system itself seems to be running, because the clock keeps showing the correct time, and after some time the screensaver blanks the screen.
I tried several things (xHCI enabled/disabled in BIOS, VT-d enabled/disabled, with/without kernel parameter iommu=soft or iommu=on, plug mouse and keyboard in USB 2.0 port, in USB 3.0 port). All with the same result: keyboard and mouse are dead.
syslog shows the following for keyboard, mouse, and Wacom Intuos:

Hey, first of all i would like to introduce my self because this is my first post ( out of many hopefully ).

what's so special about it?
i did my little research and figured that Ubuntu is probably the best Desktop linux there is.
now i would like to know:
What is the difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu (and other similar OS's?)I would like to have both linux and windows on my pc, i heared about a concept or something like that which is called "Dual booting", i would be glad to have any reference about how it works, or how i could get it to work .what should i use, 64 bit or 32 bit OS? do 32 bit programs work on 64 bit linux?Pros and Cons of ubuntu verses other linux OS?what does UNIX mean? is it like linux? same kernel or what? i really couldnt figure it out is there anything else important for me to know before in
