Any GUI app to configure samba / file sharing on XFCE 4.8?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 16, 2011
Hi
I'm looking for an application to configure samba file/directory share under xfce 4.8, xubuntu 11.04.
Is there something just like gnome in ubuntu, where you just right click on a folder and select share using a simple GUI?
TIA
xfce panel content leftaligned after upgrade
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 9, 2009
Hi,
After I upgraded Xubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, everything in the bottom panel was left-aligned. But originally, desktop miniatures and some icons like trash can are supposed to be right aligned.
I think I also had this after upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, but then I just redid a clean install. But I don't want to do that now over something simple.
It's probably something extremely simple. But I cannot move it to the right of the screen, only farther to the left or to the rightmost part of the other left-aligned stuff. I also don't see align options in properties.
How do I fix my panel?
Unity vs XFCE, should I change or move to another OS? How?

Lots of questions and info, so please take the time to read.
I love Ubuntu, I would love to stick with it, It's way better than windows especially since Vista and windows 7 which are truly dreadful so I'm not even thinking about moving back to that and I can't afford a Mac. But, (Of course there has to be a but) I have been using Ubuntu as my only OS for quite a while now (since 10.04) which got updated to 11.04 when that version was released but I used the classic desktop exclusively. With the recent hype about the improvements made to the unity desktop I finally took the plunge and updated to 12.04 over the weekend.
I'm now regretting that decision as I just don't get on with unity. It's a personal thing but I find my productivity is down hugely because it's just not designed for multi tasking.
Feel free to skip this explanation of why I don't get on with Unity but if you understand my issues it might help for a more appropriate answers/opinions.

Flash no working (Xfce version 4.4.2/ Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.6)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 8, 2010
I'm not sure if I'm running on Ubuntu or Linux or if there's a difference. I'm very new to this.
Previously, I could not play embedded videos on Facebook. So I went to an Ubuntu forum and researched how to get a flash player plugin that would work. I typed in "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree". I didn't get any real results. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the flash plugin through the Synaptic Package manager. That's when all hell broke loose.
YouTube videos don't play. Flash sites don't play. Ads don't play. Pandora radio doesn't play. And worst of all, I still can't play embedded videos on Facebook.
I'm willing to give information about my system if it will help me make this computer work.
Thank you in advance.
Xfce on Ubuntu Server Help!
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 31, 2006
I installed Ubuntu server, and I want to isntall a GUI. I tried Gnome, and it wasn't that great. I tried KDE, and it would have been awsome, but it's a hog memory wise. So I want to try installing Xfce. I tried teh command line "sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop", but "xubuntu-desktop" wasn't found. Is there another way to install Xfce? Like, if I just install gnome, then do it from inside gnome, and switch when I log in, or, can I get an ISO somewhere? Please fill me in, thank you very much (And appologies for all the posts today)
Dropbox + Google Drive = win

ok, so I've been having problems getting google drive on my ubuntu netbook lately, but i think i have a solution.:
you need:
1. windows machine you can leave on during the day
2. the linux machine you want to access your google drive on
3. dropbox and google drive accounts
this is what you do:
1. on your windows box, install dropbox like normal
2. install gdrive inside your dropbox folder
3. install dropbox on your linux machine
as long as the windows machine is running, you will be able to access your google drive via your dropbox folder!
tell me what you think!

Dockbarx and XFCE 4.10?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 24, 2013
I have a kinda old netbook, so I am running Xubuntu 12.10 and I want to use DockbarX. I found instructions online, I don't quite remember what commands I had to run it but I believe it was just apt-get install dockbarx and dockbarx-plugin (or something similar to that, I really cant remember).
Anyhow, at the moment I can go to menu -> accessories -> dockx (also have dockbarx preferences, but I have not yet found anything to solve my problem in there) and it will load dockbarx vertically along the side of my screen. But that is not what I want, I want it in my panel.
While searching google, I also noticed that it was suggested to install xfce4-xfapplet-plugins, but when I attempt to do so I get an error message stating "E: Package 'xfce4-xfapplet-plugin' has no installation candidate" , I am not sure what that means.
Searching google also seems to reveal positive results for DockbarX and XFCE 4.8 but I cant find anything for 4.10. Is DockbarX compatiable with XFCE 4.1
