Dual monitors Radeon X300 resolution exceeds 3d limit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 8, 2012
hi there me again, with the same problem haha.
got ubuntu 12.04.01 installed fine, all my hardware is working as it should except the graphics card.
it currently has my 2 dell 17 inch monitors mirrored, but i want them extended, like in windows 7.
when i go to displays, and untick mirrored displays and set the correct resolutions, i get this message:
GDBus.Errorrg.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gnome_2drr_2der ror_2dquark.Code3: Requested size (2560, 1024) exceeds 3D hardware limit (2048, 2048).
You must either rearrange the displays, so that they fit within a (2048, 2048) square,
or select the Ubuntu 2D session at login.
I have looked in additional drivers, but that window shows nothing.

Installing Ubuntu 10.10 on a Windows 7 System (Dual booting) with Radeon X300/X550/X1

Ubuntu Linux, just like most Linux distributions, will happily co-exist on a hard disk with just about any version of Windows. This is a concept known as dual-booting. Essentially, when you power up your PC you will be presented with a menu which provides the option to boot either Ubuntu Linux or Windows. Obviously you can only run one operating system at a time, but it is worth noting that the files on the Windows partition of your disk drive will be available to you from Ubuntu Linux regardless of whether your windows partition was formatted using NTFS.
To day I have installed Latest Windows 7 and Latest Ubuntu 10.10 on my office system (Dual booting). This two operating system which I installed in HP dx 7200 micro towers.

Hi,
I am trying to get dual monitors set up on my Toshiba satellite sa60, which has the ati radeon mobility 7000 igp, on kubuntu 7.04. My laptop screen is a bog standard

The gui system configuration fails completely - I end up with a wobbly screen on the external monitor, and a blank screen on the laptop. If I just plug the second screen into the laptop, I dont see anything on it, although the 2nd monitor indicates it is recieving signal.
I have tried running 'X -configure', but the resulting config file leaves me with a perfect external screen and a blank laptop.
I have also tried editing my xorg.conf file, along the lines of posts on similar threads, although I must admit to being a novice at x configuration. The test configuration I am using presently leaves me with 2 blank desktops, and is an attempt to combine the X -configure files with and without th
Dual monitors: gnomesession over ssh with x11 forwarding set resolution to fit on just one monitor

I have two monitors with different resolutions (1440x900 and 1600x1200) on Windows 7. I am connecting to a Red Hat machine via ssh through cygwin/x with x11 forwarding.
When I start a gnome-session to get the desktop environment, it opens over both monitors with a window size of 3040x1200. Part of it is not displayed on my smaller monitor.
$ startxwin &
$ ssh -Y redhat

I am unable to change the size of the window by dragging the corners. Is there a way to force the resolution to make the window fit on just one of the monitors?

I'm trying to work out how to get dual monitors working on ubuntu 6.06. I'm using two identical flat screen 17" and an nvidia 6600 gfx card. Could someone point me in the right direction. I need the desktop to extend across the two monitors not replicate whats on the first one.
Cheers in advance.

Greetings.
I got some problems with my Ubuntu 11.10 computer.
I just reinstalled it with the "new" OS.
I've been rolling with Win7 for a while, because of BF3 and such.
Anyways, I'm getting back in to the world of Linux.
This is my problem.
I got a 27 inch screen and a 24 inch screen.
When i where in Win7 everything worked perfect. Just installed 11.10 and now dual monitors wont work.
I'm getting a error message which is saying:
required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3840, 1080), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920).
Please help me!
Kind regard.
Games on Ati Mobility Radeon X300 Ubuntu 9.04, why some work and why some don't?!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 18, 2009
Hello,
I've been trying to find an answer, or rather a solution to my problem.
I am browsing through the forums and I see all kinds of posts about my problem with 20 different not-really-solutions.
It seems that old ATI cards aren't supported by ubuntu 9.04.
I'm running 9.04 on an Inspiron 6000 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X300
I can play stuff like OpenArena. I can enable Compiz even on extra everything works fine.
I can't play stuff like Tibia or Graal cause I get errors like this when I try to start.
Code:
X Error of failed request
Why can I run intense games (for my laptop that is) like OpenArena and why can I use compiz, but why can't use simple top-down 2d games like Tibia/Graal/etc... ?
Is there a reason and more importantly a general solution for this problem or doesn't even Ubuntu support older graphics cards anymore?
Thanks in advance
[SOLVED] XBMC Live 10.1 and ATI Radeon X300
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 12, 2011
Hi, I'm trying different things to set up my HTPC with XBMC. The machine uses a ATI Radeon X300 PCI Express card (quite an old thing).
First, I tried OpenSuSE 11.3, of which I already had the DVD. The OS works fine, but when trying to run XBMC, it fails because XBMC needs GL support. So off I go to http://support.amd.com to find a driver. In the sidebar:Desktop Graphics

Radeon X3xx Series
Linux x86
Click "View results"
I went to runlevel 3, and did

Dual Monitors in Ubuntu 12.10 forced to use Mirror Display
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 8, 2012
I've got a second monitor attached to my Ubuntu/Win7 dual-boot machine now. The second monitor wasn't working in Ubuntu so I upgraded from 12.04LTS to 12.10 to see if it would fix it. It has, but now whenever I have both monitors enabled, Mirror Display automatically comes enabled. Also, I seem to be stuck using gross-looking 4:3 ratio resolutions (one of the monitors is a 4:3 monitor but the other is 16:9).
Is it possible to use both monitors and have a different display on each? Do I need to install additional drivers or something? I want to have my main work environment on the main monitor and things like IM clients and twitter clients on the second monitor so I can see if anyone's trying to get in touch with me without tabbing around.
edit: and to add insult to injury, I seem to have disabled my launcher from showing up on either monitor entirely and I can't get it to come back.
Ubuntu 12.04 Dual Monitors Not Working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 9, 2012
Hello All,
It is my first posting, please let me know what I can do to improve my presentation skill.
My issue is getting Dual Monitor working under Ubuntu 12.04. I have just upgraded to the AMD Video Driver for Ubuntu (amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64) and when I tried to have Multi Desktop setup with two monitors, the 2nd monitor shows a white screen with black X as the cursor.
Would you please helping me solving this issue?
Please find the attached xorg.conf for my current duo monitor setup.
Thank you very much for your help,
