Ebox OpenVPN Problem: Can't access advertised network
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 30, 2010
I've got this ebox machine working beautifully, except for this niggle.
Here is the situation:
Internal Lan ( 192.168.1.0/24 )
( Internal ip 192.168.1.1) (eth1)
(External ip 202.194.xxx.xxx) (eth0)
Now I've setup VPN as follows
vpn port : 1124
vpn address : 192.168.160.0/24
Advertized Network : 192.168.1.0 /24
Listening to Interface : eth0
Ofcourse, Ebox is using OpenVpn for creating vpn.
Now this is where I'm currently stuck. From my external machine I can connect to the EBOX machine.
The client machine gets a default IP of 192.168.160.3
I can ping EBOX at 192.168.160.1 and Infact connect to ebox administrative interface by doing
But I'm unable to connect to any machine within the advertised network. Ebox documentation says that I need to have reverse route from internal lan machines. I tried

cant access linux (ubuntu 9.10) despite it still works (provides network services)
- date: November 8, 2010
My ubuntu 9.10 box is locked. If i try to connect via SSH, it never gets to the user login, but it doesnt show the cant connect error.
Via webmin, it prompts me the user & pass page (showing that the service is up! the connectivity is ok, and network works), but it wont ever login. it waits and load for ever.
In phisical console, i write down the user & password, i logoin correctly and it loads the welcome screen, displaying the used memory (43%), the users logged (0) etc, but it never shows the
command line, so i can write, but without any effect.
Meanwhile, on the pc's connected to its LAN, some services as DHCP doesnt work, but other ones like a proxy and firewall still work. Every user can still surf the net.
Lan --------- ubuntu server ----------- Internet
Right now, i have my ubuntu server in that state and i can try to do any test that could help me.
[SOLVED] using ssh cant access applications off of host, problem with environment variables
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 20, 2010
I am using ssh on windows XP to remotely connect to a UNIX server that provides web application development services. The server is called snapper and is also designed to run computer-intensive engineering and GIS applications. I have been able to successful access the server. However, when I try to run an application I get an error message saying:
“Application initialization failed: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment variable
The ANSYS Launcher could not be started
The most likely reason is that your DISPLAY environment variable I either not set (i.e. issue setenv DISPLAY dev:0.0 where dev is your device name) or is set to a device that is not accepting the connection. “
I was hoping someone could explain to me what the DISPLAY environment variable is and how to set it. I’m grateful for any assistance.
Thanks in advance
Samba problem: Unable to browse/access Windows network
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 23, 2007
I have Samba installed on my Ubuntu 6.10 machine. It is on a network with several Windows computers. I have finally configured Samba, with the help of the swat tool, to enable the Windows computers to see and access my shared files.
However, I am unable to browse or access any of the Windows computers from my Ubuntu computer using the Nautilus file browser. I've not tried any command-line Samba tool (I will try this ASAP, though).
(I think this is probably the cause of my printing issue, too.)
I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. Can somebody please help me?
Cant access samba shares in Ubuntu 10.04 from Windows (XP or Vista)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 7, 2010
So I setup the newest Ubuntu on my old desktop on a 30g HD and have 2 200G HDs with a ntfs file system on those two. I got SSH and FTP configured, then went on to setup Samba.
I have it (seemingly) set up well. /dev/sb1 gets mounted on /data1 /dev/sc1 gets mounted on /data2
I want anyone connected to my router to be able to see this machine and be able to read and write to both shares.
I configured WINS on my laptop to point to the linux box. and i've seen the pc in question (TECH-PC) in "My Network Places" on both of our laptops.
Long story short, I try to connect to my network share and it says i don't have permission and i need to contact my network admin. This computer is the only one with Linux installed, the rest are windows-OS.
Let me know if you need more info, pretty stumped here, have searched, read, scrapped my install and started from scratch, maybe i need to sleep on it

Configuring OpenVPN for internet access
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 17, 2013
After several hours I finally have a working connection between my laptop (client) and my Ubuntu 12.04 server set up with OpenVPN. However, the laptop (running Windows 7 x64) lists the vpn connection as an "Unidentified network" (public) and I cannot use it for internet access (i.e. when I check whatismyipaddress.com, I still get the real one, and not that of the server).
Could you please help me finish the configuration so that I could use the vpn tunnel for accessing the internet?
Thanks a lot in advance! Do let me know if you need me to supply any additional details.
Problem to access internet via live cd Ubuntu 7.10
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 30, 2008
I tried to follow the tutorial on how to access to the internet from Ubuntu but couldn't do it.
I think I have an ADSL modem, but I'm not sure. How can I check that?
I tried several commands and took screenshots while in Ubuntu. For example I openened a Terminal and typed " sudo lshw -C Network"
I got "description: Ethernet interface
product: 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection
etc..." Does this help?
I've also entered to Network settings, but don't know what to change and/or type.
Please help me to go on internet via Ubuntu. If you need more information, just tell me what to type.
P.S.: I run my cpu under Windows XP.
