[SOLVED] Can not get rid of edubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 7, 2012
Hi I just installed edubuntu because a friend said it was great. Unfortunately I don't like it very much. How do I get rid of it? I liked the ubuntu 11.10 that I had before.
I tried to remove it with the ubuntu software store, but it is still there.
How to verify integrity of Edubuntu addon CD?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 6, 2009
I just finished, for the 3rd time, attempting to build a Ubuntu 8.10/Edubuntu install. On all 3 occasions I have received errors to the effect that certain packages were not installed (from the Edubuntu CD). This time I made the mistake of also trying to install a restricted Nvidia driver so the whole install is toast and I cannot get to the error messages which I saved.
I am guessing that the issue is with the CD or CD drive. When I first install Ubuntu I am given the opportunity to verify the integrity of the CD. The dialog which comes up when I load the Edubuntu CD it does not give me such an option. I see a file with the MD5 digest values for the individual files on the CD however, I am not inclined to check the files one by one.
Thanks in advance for any advise. I think I will try to install Edubuntu on a VMWare machine this time. Quicker to back that up than to reinstall 8.10 from scratch on my old physical test box.
Edubuntu 11.10 LTSP installation shuts off other network to internet
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 19, 2012
I have two network connectors, one on the mainboard and the other in a PCI slot, and have tried LTSP several times both from a live-CD session (actually Edubuntu 11.10 comes on a DVD) and by installing to disk. Both network connections work fine for connecting to the intenet, but as soon as LTSP is tested from the live-CD session the internet shuts off and nm-tool reports that connection -- whether it is eth0 or eth1 -- as unavailable or unmanaged. Same if I install Edubuntu to the hard disk and select LTSP Server as an installation option.
I wonder if this could be related to the computer, Dell Optiplex 755, because using the same PCI card on an older computer I did have LTSP from Edubuntu 8.04 up and running OK.
I have tried switching cables each way and reinstalling, switching cables after installing, every possibility, and the behavior is the same.
For example, if I install LTSP (or test LTSP via live-CD session) with the internet cable on the mainboard connector (eth0) and the

[SOLVED] How to edit Firefox global settings on Edubuntu LTSP server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 20, 2011
I recently did a clean install of Edubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) with LTSP. After installing, I found that Firefox was on version 5. I've done customizations to Firefox in 3.6.x (proxy settings, etc) on other LTSP servers (Ubuntu 9.10) and have always used the firefox.js file located in /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.x/defaults/pref. When I looked, it doesn't exist in this directory. There is a syspref.js and I've added lines to that, but it doesn't seem to pull from that file. Is there a js file somewhere that I can use to set global changes to Firefox for all users on LTSP? I'm looking to set things like proxy settings, cache directories and sizes, etc....Any help is appreciated!

Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Edubuntu?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 7, 2005
I'm a newbie here, and I would like to say hello to everyone and apologize if I write or do anything stupid. I must say also that english is not my native tongue, so you may see some mispelling or miswriting here. Not a great start, uh?
Here is the deal:
I'm the CIO for a health care institution in Brazil, and we just got some funds to apply in a computer laboratory for the patients. We already decided for linux, and Ubuntu is now our most probable distro choice. But I'm facing a doubt that maybe someone can help me to clarify: should we use Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Edubuntu?
The laboratory will be used to introduce computer and internet to very poor patients (who never or almost never had access to a computer), providing them a new professional carreer option/tool (most of them just can't attend to a regular fixed time job due to their illness). A considerable part of the patients are children (we plan to have distinct groups/classes).

Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu or Xubuntu which one is better?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 10, 2008
I can't find the answer anywhere so I decided to ask you the experts. Not exactly which one is better, but which version or that works better with different graphic cards. In fact this is all based on someone told me that Kubuntu works best with ATI Graphics cards. But what the hell anyway...are there any differences between the different versions?
