EduBuntu Games for six year old?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 16, 2009
Hi, I am looking for educational games in Edubuntu. I have installed it, but it seems difficult to find games such as TuxMath. I mean only that if I want them for a certain age (6 year old) and specifically educational rather than simply being a game, its hard to sort through the many files. Is there a better way to do this? (most responses say simply search the synaptic manager rather than helping to refine the search)
Or if I ask it a different way: What would be the best games for a six year old.
(By the the way, TuxMath is fabulous in that it makes my kid add faster. He loves it. )

Ubuntu vs. Kubuntu vs. Xubuntu vs. Edubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 6, 2011
I have a big question:
I've been hearing a lot about other types of Ubuntu.
E.g. Ubuntu (itself), Xubuntu, etc.
But What is the point? Why not just use the original. I've tried Kubuntu and find that the only reasonable replacement. And that is just to have Ubuntu slow but look pretty. Is there any other use of Kubuntu? And what are the perks to Xubuntu and Edbuntu ? I mean what's the point of Xubuntu ? And how is Edbuntu suited to educational purposes?
Hello again, World!
I'd appreciate any kind of feedback.

hey all, what is the difference between ubuntu (11.04) and edubuntu (11.04)? i was going through the software centre looking for educational material, upon restarting my machine, i noticed the appearance changed and it says edubuntu instead of ubuntu.
I then google it and heard it was the version used for class room stuff, so can someone explain to me the differences? because it mostly seems the same to me, but just to clarify in case of tears that may later be shed as a result of this >_<
thanks for any help
Ubuntu vs. Edubuntu?

I have a new family desktop pc on the way and I would like to repurpose our current desktop as a pc dedicated to my young offspring.
I think Ubuntu and possibly Edubuntu is the way to go, considering all of the free educational software available. I am totally new to Ubuntu and pretty much a Linux n00b altogether. I installed RedHat once for a sys admin class years ago, and that's all I've ever done with it.
I'm not sure if I should install Ubuntu and install Edubuntu's apps on it, or go all the way and install the Edubuntu platform over Ubuntu? I've had a hard time googling the web for reasons why a parent might want to install full Edubuntu instead of just installing the Edubuntu apps on an Ubuntu machine.
My 4 year old son will be the primary user, for now, and he's very technically apt. I don't have any worries about him navigating the menus or shortcuts (or whatever Ubuntu's equivalent to shortcuts are) between the environments. I am mostly interested in knowing if there are

Where can I find Edubuntu 10.10?
Against the pae error to install edubuntu 12.04 it is suggested to install edubuntu 10.10.
Where is the edubuntu 10.10 download available.
it is not on http://edubuntu.org/download or on http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/edubuntu/
Edubuntu desktop vs Ubuntu educational bundles

My five year old son loves playing with Ubuntu and can navigate around 12.04 pretty well. I understand there is an education derivative edubuntu and I also see there are educational bundles for download.
What are the pros and cons for each?

I am setting up a computer lab for a small private school, consisting of 14 computers plus a file server. The file server has a super old version of Debian which I plan to upgrade to 8.04 Server Editon, but what exactly is Edubuntu? I was planning on just installing Ubuntu to everything, but apparently Edubuntu is "designed for schools". Can someone tell me how Edubuntu is different that Ubuntu aside from graphics and maybe bundled programs?
Need to made a decision by Thursday.
edubuntu or ubuntu server?

Hi folks. I am looking to set up a thin client server for my business. It will be small (~15 workstations) and the requirements are very modest (mostly web browsing). Looking at edubuntu, I see it comes setup and preconfigured with some features I was expecting to use, like ltsp, dhcp, menu editors/thin client management gui tools, gnome nanny, etc. In general its feature set seems very useful. However, I would like this server to have maximum longevity, since it will probably remain unchanged for the forseeable future once it's properly configured. I was originally considering installing ubuntu server 10.04 because of the long-term support promise of five years. I have had some trouble locating more documentation relating to edubuntu's integration with ubuntu updates and its support into the future on any given version. Does anybody have any input that could inform me to make the right decision? Thanks in advance!
