Unsure where I'm going wrong? mini xml install and usage
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2011
If anyone can help me or let me know where I should repost this question, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks.
I am developing an application.... call it myapplication. I started to input and parse a text cfg file manually in ansi c. I started getting clever with a txt version of a config file using keywords and trying to read in and parse the data I needed from each table into char arrays. I started thinking that XML would be a lot easier and since I need to do that eventually anyhow I dropped the effort for reading in the data from a formatted txt file and I have now spent over 2 days trying to get an ansi c compatible version of XML (called mini-xml) running on Ubuntu so that I can use the xml functions from my "myapplication" to read in an xml file. It is not going well. I think both my unfamiliarity with Linux and the lack of a good set of instructions for mini-xml installation/build is holding me back. But I thinkmy lackof knowledge on how Linux features/a
[SOLVED] Multimedia key problems! Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?
- date: June 14, 2012
I'm trying to import the stupid multimedia key-ring. And alas it seems I am going in circles so can someone help me out? I did a Google search about it and I got to Mepis' website and they way the article there is laid out is not the way the Debian multimedia fella's site looks for me. Plus it's the most god-awful colors on the site too.
So I need to start fresh and try again. Can someone help? All I need to succesfully import and add the key! Here's my errors I am getting:

USlash / StartUpManager... where am I going wrong?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 24, 2010
Trying to install a new boot splash to replace the boring white logo on the flat black back. I installed StartUp-Manager like the how to said. Installed my theme (fingerprint.so). But nothing but a random color test box thing. here is the how to I am trying to follow:https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...ch/018670.html Step 2 does nothing:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
Triple boot with Grub (not Grub2) where am I going wrong?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 19, 2012
I swapped out the hard disk on my netbook. I partitioned the new disk with a live-usb, then I dd-ed the WinXP partition that I had on the old drive on sda3 (size was exactly the same so it was a 1:1 copy). I then installed Windows 7 on sda2, followed by PCLinuxOS on sda1. The Grub installer saw the Win7 partition correctly, but it missed the WinXP one. I added it manually, but it doesn't work - I just get a black screen with the menu.lst lines for WinXP, a blinking cursor and it locks up there.
I tried using bootsect /nt52 from Win7 on the XP partition, but it did nothing.
The menu.lst lines for XP are as follows:
I'm missing something, but I don't know what - shouldn't WinXP boot just as it did before if the partition is copied entirely?
Cacti Install Where am I going wrong?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 30, 2007
I really need Cacti up and running and thought it would be a quick job to install it on a spare Fedora machine we have.
I would be very grateful for a quick answer on this as I need it finished today
Everything has been done, but when I go to the final step.
It gives the following error. (See Below)
This database does exist
I have checked and double checked my details.
Here are the entries from /var/www/html/cacti/include/config.php
$database_type = "mysql";
$database_default = "cactidb";
$database_hostname = "localhost";
$database_username = "cactiuser";
$database_password = "cactipw";
$database_port = "3306";
You have created a new database, but have not yet imported the 'cacti.sql' file. At the command line, execute the following to continue:
mysql -u cactiuser -p cacti < cacti.sql
This error may also be generated if the cacti database user does n
Virtualhosts in apache. where am i going wrong.

Ok for some reason I can get this to work. All my domain names are registered. When I type in www.hometecpc.com I don't get anything. When I type in www.hometectest.com get the hometec web page.(should be getting the johndrysdale one). I have tried setting the ip to listen to all as well as to the hostnames like I have set up here. Can any of you take a look and tell me what is up? I am using redhat 9 apache 2.0.40 and I set it up with webmin.

Files and group permissions where am i going wrong in life!
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 3, 2008
i dont know how to begin but here i try;
we have a pasty file server which users acess from window machines using samba. All users have access to main folder called MasterFolder.
The read/write/exec access to folders withing this MasterFolder is controlled by groups, so a user can only write to a folder if they are member of that group.
We have a folder called folderA and its group owner is GroupA. When 2 users(user a and user b)are members of GroupA this gives them write access to that folder. Now when user a creates a folder inside folderA the write permissions on that newly created sub folder becomes the user A's group name. Hence the other member of folderA, users b, cannot write to that newly created sub folder created by users a.
my question is is there a way where either users(both members of GroupA, which is the group owner of folderA) can write subfolders and makes changes to one anothers sub folders?
any help will be appreciate

[SOLVED] Scripting logic: where am I going wrong?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 7, 2011
Okay, I am trying to write a find script that works with sed.
For instance, to convert a list of png files to a certain scale, a certain quality and then to another format, I do this:
find . -iname \*.png -printf "convert \042%p\042 -quality 75 -scale 800x600 -verbose `echo %p|sed -e 's/png/jpg/g'`\n"
Yet if the file is "shot0001.png"
the output I get is
convert "./shot0001.png" -quality 75 -scale 800x600 -verbose ./shot0001.png
I must be doing something illogical here. While making this script work would be fine, I am much more interested in why the sed command is not intervening as I had imagined it should.
Could somebody please help me figure out what's going wrong with this make?

What is going wrong when Visual Studio tells me “xcopy exited with code 4”
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 31, 2014
I'm not very familiar with post-build events, so I'm a little confused as to what's going wrong with my program. When compiling in visual studio 2010, I get the following:
The command "xcopy C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\Library\dsoframer.ocx C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\bin\Debug\ /Y /E /D
xcopy C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\ApplicationFiles C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\bin\Debug\ /Y /E /D
xcopy C:\Users\Me\Path\url\ C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\bin\Debug\ /Y /E /D
rmdir /S /Q C:\Users\Me\Path\Foo.bar\bin\Debug\.gwt-tmp" exited with code 4.
The program appears to run fine, despite this error, but I don't want to just ignore this issue and hope nothing bad happens. Strangely, this line started out as only a single command (the first xcopy) but as I continued to compile the project (fixing other problems, mostly references) the error message expanded larger and larger. Any idea what could be going on?
Edit: Here are the postbuild events that seem to be failing --
