Remote Desktop Viewer

What do i need to do to get Remote Desktop Viewer to a usable state. I can connect to the other PC but the desktop takes 10 minutes to display completely. The mouse cursor only refreshes every 2 seconds and the desktop never refreshes but things are happening on the other side.
Why is it not refreshing? Surely Canonical wouldn't package something that is, quite frankly, useless? So what am i doing wrong?
What is the syntax for the SSH Tunnel host in Remote Desktop Viewer?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 1, 2011
I have succeeded in using Remote Desktop Viewer to make a VNC connection to a remote WAN computer and it was quick enough to manipulate the remote computer in real time.
I found the host name by getting the remote target computer to put the following url into a browser - http://www.showmyip.com/ - It returned the address for the router which I put into the Host: text entry box in the Remote Desktop Viewer window.
E.g. for my computer at the time of submitting my enquiry the address was 'host81-129-54-226.range81-129.btcentralplus.com'
The remote router that I connected to needed to have the port 5900 forwarded to the remote target computer.
I now want to progress to running VNC through a SSH tunnel for additional security. In the Remote Desktop Viewer there is a configuration line
'use host' <text box to enter host name> 'as a SSH tunnel'
What is the correct syntax to enter in the text box? It would help my understanding if you used the example address above as a basis f
RDP session works on remote desktop viewer but not on login screen

Hi. First of all let me say i'm portuguese so, sorry for my grammar
Since steam as been released for linux, and ubuntu came more beauty with unity, and microsoft got insane with win8, i decided to start a new life with ubuntu 12.10 (now i have 13.04). I've already tried some years ago with those free cds, but on that time ubuntu were more ugly and complicated in my opinion, that was the reason because i was a windows user.
Back on topic, i decided to go further and test that option we see on login screen ("Remote desktop login"), after a lot of searches i found that to use this ability i needed to install a rdp server. and that's what i did, by following scarygliders guide. After a looooooooong time it was finally installed and it works on remote desktop viewer (that application which come with ubuntu) but when i try to login by login screen (after doing those steps of creating account in uccs etc) it just appears a black screen with the mouse pointer (which is black too l
Can't connect with Remote Desktop Viewer since 12.04 upgrade.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 27, 2013
I'm unable to connect to a remote machine using the Remote Desktop Viewer since I upgraded to 12.04 sometime last year. ( I've been hacking away at this but no joy )
I have enabled Desktop Sharing on the remote machine and the firewall status allows port 5900 from Anywhere
I can ssh to that machine as well.
When I try to connect via Remote Desktop Viewer I get
"Connection to host <ip address> was closed."
I will take all advice and suggestions that are offerred, but I'd like to explore two things if someone knows how to do this :
1. What is the config file that defines which port the server and the client are using ? ( I might have delved too deeply and changed this port and I just want to make sure it is 5900 )
2. I can't seem to find any way to get diagnostics on the Remote Desktop Viewer ( verbose ) to determine exactly what the error is beyond "was closed"
Many thanks for any and all assistance.

Have 2 questions.
1 How do I remove bookmarks, that no longer are in use in the 'Remote Desktop Viewer'
2. Where do I control wich Keyboard layous that uses in "Remote Desktop". Have swedish layout on both client- and server-machines, but when I go throu 'Remote Desktop Viewer' I get US keyboard layout.
Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on booth client and server and using VNC-plugins...
EDIT. i found one bookmarkfiles in /home/Azyx/.local/share/vinagre but it was only one old bookmark there, and that disappeared when I removed it
I think the PROBLEM was that i first connect to the Remote Desktop machine when I have US charset on the machine, but then when I changed it on the machine the bookmark still configure it as US encoding. But I can not get rid of bookmarks.
Remote Desktop viewer

I think i would be correct in guessing this thread has already been asked.
Recently I started renting a VPS, server is good but the support team don't have a brain cell between them.
Currently I do not want to run a game server though the terminal.
I would like to be able to have some form of view-able desktop from where I can work.
I only have Terminal Access and SSH (Which is buggy)
Is there any programs that you can recommend or any good how-to's that explain what I am looking for.
If I have missed anything out, just let me know and I will add it.
Remote Desktop Viewer (Vinagre) issues and 14.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 21, 2014
I used Vinagre happily (and frequently) with 12.04 LTS. Now, having moved some machines over to 14.04 LTS (not quite final release ...), it seems that if I try to use Vinagre to view 13.10 or 14.04 machines, it comes up with a black screen, but it still links OK to 12.04 and Win XP and Win7 machines. Anyone else noticed this? Is there a fix?
Reply from monkeybrain20122:
Think it doesn't work with 3d desktops. In 12.04 it worked because you were using unity2d. So for 12.10 onwards you need to install an alternative 2d DE for remote session. In 13.04 gnome-fallback worked, it becomes (?) gnome-session-flashback in 13.10 and is broken, remote session shows blackscreen so one would need to install some other 2d desktop for remote sessions, lxde works nicely, don't know if gnome-session-flashback works in 14.04. You'd better post the thread in Ubuntu+1 as the testers may be able to give you more info about 14.04, which has not been released yet.
Remote Desktop Viewer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 2, 2010
I can't seem to get the remote desktop viewer to connect to another computer. I've tried connecting it to my comp with 10:04 to another laptop and to my comp at my Polytech. Each time it just comes up saying that "the connection was closed".
Although I can connect the other way from my comp with 10:04 to my laptop with 10:10. It works fine that way.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

I am able to connect to a remote computer via Remote Desktop Viewer but does anyone know if I can pass files to the remote computer. If so, how do I do it? Copy & paste doesn't work.
