Fedora 20 gnome user session remains active after logout or reboot
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 13, 2014
My wifes netbook runs fedora 20. I have made two accounts, one for her and one for me (for maintenance). Recently she was hit by the "Firefox is already running....etc thing. After i ssh'd into her netbook i found out that her session remains active after she logged out ergo even after a reboot.
So does firefox even after she quitted it before logging out!
loginctl user-status mywifesname shows lot of processes among which is gnome-session;
I have erased all .gnome etc. dirs from her homedir but still...
What is wrong here?
Fedora 18 Gnome switched to fallback mode after installing VirtualBox guest additions
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 18, 2013
I'm currently running a Fedora 18 virtual machine, using VirtualBox (v4.2.10) as virtualization software on a Windows 7 host.
After installing Fedora, the Gnome 3 Shell environment worked perfectly fine. However after I installed the VirtualBox guest additions, Gnome went into 'fallback' mode, and refuses to go back to 'standard' mode.
I haven't changed or installed anything else other than the VB guest additions prior to the problem.
Some of the things I've tried so far is to disable SELinux, and a reinstallation of the Gnome Shell, unfortunately without luck.
What could be the cause of the problem?
Thanks in advance!

Keeping remote desktop apps active after logout?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 31, 2006
Currently using XDMCP to make a remote desktop session.
This works great but all the GUI apps, well the whole gui session I run close when I close the connection. In my case I want to keep one of the GUI apps running as I need to access it remotely.
This is really frustrating and I'm open to options as to how I can achieve this result.
Trouble with Static IP after Standby or reboot
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 28, 2009
Upon attempting to set up my static IP by editing the /etc/network/interfaces file I noticed that my eth0 interface was not setup to use DHCP there.
All I had was
iface lo inet loopback
I need to know where is my eth0 set to use DHCP by default, as I believe this is causing me some problems setting up a static IP.
The problem I am having is that after setting up the static IP as such...
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet static
I can get it to work by sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sometimes... it's very frustrating. And when it does work, I loose my connection after a reboot or resuming from standby.
When this happens, ifconfig does not show my eth0 adapter, only lo
From my router, I thought I needed to assign a port or IP to a the mac address, but it isn't that robust. It waits for that info fr
save dmesg after crash or reboot
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 17, 2010
I have a gentoo distribution and need to store the information of dmesg collected until a system crash.
At present, after a reboot or a crash the information in dmesg are lost and are not available at the next reboot. How can I save all the information in dmesg until a crash and read them after the succeed reboot?
I also checked for dmesg.x files in /var/log or similar files but with no success.
Thank you in advance.
Fedora 19 boots only in emergency mode after trying to replace Gnome with LXDE

Fedora 20 gets stuck in boot after upgrading the kernel
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 1, 2014
I had installed Fedora 20 running on a 3.14 something , it had another kernel 3.11 something. I allowed some updates to happen and the next time I booted it got stuck and showed another rescue version on Grub. Now I am only able to run on 3.11 or the rescue version.
I tried to remove the newer kernel completely and reinstall it again , but it still does not work. If i restart the machine through rescue OS i get the error ''DRACUT" something.
How to I upgrade the kernel to a new stable version??
