fedora 8 no update
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 10, 2008
i have freshly installed fc8 and i am getting some problems when it tries to install the updates from the fedora-updates web site.
what happens is that fedora download all the updates from the site (about 700) but makes an error when intalling them and STOPS ... " an error occurred when trying to install updates ." but i don know which error it was.
How can i check it ?
how can i continue the upgrading process without downloading all the stuff again?
is fc8 really a stable version?
thanks in advance
Need assistance SSHing into Fedora 14 when Fedora had no problem SSHing into Ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 30, 2011
Well, you see, after checking out a tutorial from my favorite BASH tutorial guy, Metalx1000, he showed me how to SSH. Well, any way, I did the SSH thing with my laptop to get into Ubuntu and it worked perfectly... but when I try it from Ubuntu it says there's no route to the port. I'm using the IP that shows up for Nmap when I scan it, but it still doesn't work. Also, I've noticed that in an Nmap scan it won't show that SSH is open but it does for my iPod Touch and Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. Is there a way to open the SSH port so I can SSH in?
[SOLVED] Fedora 15 Software Update issue
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 28, 2011
I recently built a VMWare VM of Fedora 15. It is running in the fallback gnome mode due to video limitations. No problem there. If I login with my normal account and invoke Software Update from the gnome menu it tells me that there are 283 updates available. When I try to install them I get the message
Fedora 15 software update unspecified transaction error occured at system info.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 14, 2011
Fedora 15 software update "unspecified transaction error occurred" at system info before installing updated list.
After unchecking every (no arch) update, all the rest (i686) were installed.
now all (no arch)updates remain on the list to be installed.
Fedora "yum update" command?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 23, 2012
I've Googled around but I can't seem to get much info on what the command really does. It's used to update packages, that's how much I know, but all I came up with when searching was that you need to be more specific when updating, like "yum update package-name" but does it search for updates for all packages when just typing "yum update?"
Or what? I typed only yum update and it found 3 packages to install and 16 to upgrade. Am I updating fedora or just my installed packages and some dependencies they require?

fedora 12 `yum update y` & ran out of space in my /var/yum/cache/directory.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 13, 2011
In fedora 12 I ran `yum update -y` & ran out of space in my "/var/yum/cache/update/directory". I googled this, but I'm so new that I just don't really understand what I need to do to give this file more space. When I tried the "find similar threads" I wasn't able to find my exact problem. Can anyone give me some direction? Like I said, I'm REALLY new, so the simpler the terminology the better for me.

Fedora 20 no builtin audio
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 5, 2014
I've spent hours trying to fix this problem. I had audio working but after installing nVidia drivers my built in speakers don't work. I have them selected in pulseaudio and the bar moves like there's sound but nothing comes out of the speakers. Will post any info requested.
