Fedora Design Suite or UBuntu Studio
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 25, 2015
Hi, guys! I want to change my Linux Mint for a distro designed for video editing and graphic design, and I'm interesed in these two: Fedora Design Suite and Ubuntu Studio. I've always used Ubuntu-based distros, but I want to try something new, so I though in Fedora. However I know Fedora doesn't have as much software as Ubuntu, so that would be a problem. BUT I know Fedora project contribute to the Linux Foundation, and I would like to support it being an user.
I don't know what to do, I have no time to test distros in a Live USB. Which would you recommend me?
Home studio 64studio or Ubuntu Studio?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 5, 2010
I'm setting up a basic home studio as a birthday present for my sister. She plays keyboard, ukulele and sings, and I'm hoping to help her record some demos. I've had experience of recording/mixing/mastering in Logic on a mac (In school, won't abide by them in the house ), but have never done anything like it on Linux.
I'm building a box out of some old spare parts as a workstation. I've got it all sorted, bar the OS. I can't decide whether to use 64studio or Ubuntu Studio.
64Studio looks more suited to my purposes. It's lighter, better optimised and more targeted towards what I want to do. However, it's old, and the newer software is all in a beta release, and I'm not sure I want to use a beta release on a production machine.
Ubuntu Studio is newer, with more up to date software. It's heavier though, which might be a problem on my machine (1.8ghz Celeron, 512mb of RAM), but I guess I can replace Gnome with LXDE. It's also not as finely tuned, and in my experience do

Fedora has taken a somewhat different approach to multimedia, it seems.

First post so hi all!
We are getting a new computer so I have decided to keep the old one for playing around with linux. Am totally new to linux and have decided to go with ubuntu! I will just be playing around as any important work will be done on my trusty macbook!
Would just like to know what the difference is between ubuntu and ubuntu studio? I gather that studio is more media based but does studio still include all the programs on standerd ubuntu and a few extra?
CentOS, Fedora, or Ubuntu for server. Which is best?

The title sums it up. And, posting this on an Ubuntu forum, I know beforehand that the answers might be a little biased.
But the gist of it is that I may soon need to set up and periodically administer a box that will be used for subversion, among other things. I've been using Ubuntu since Feisty on might desktop and have loved it overall. My first instinct is to go ahead and load Hardy LTS on the new server, but then again Fedora seems to be the go-to distro for servers.
I realize that Canonical is working hard to make Ubuntu a server household name in its own right with some already evident success, but I know Fedora supposedly has a history of being a strong server platform, and nearly every server I've seen in the past is usually running some form of Red Hat-inspired software.
Come to think of it, I had forgotten about CentOS. How does that stack up?
I haven't really administered a server of any kind before, so I'd appreciate honest assessments of each distr

Ubuntu Studio Standard or LTS for Professional DJ

I would like to know which version of Ubuntu Studio 32-bit is recommended for Professional Live DJ'ing on events.
Ubuntu Studio 13.10 (standard release) or Ubuntu Studio 12.04 LTS ?
My primary requirement is stability. Is the 12.04 LTS version more stable than 13.10 standard? Or both are the same?
When I mix live, the last thing I want is a crash in front of a live audience. As long as Mixxx v1.11 x32 runs stable, I would be happy.
Thank you for any input.
Xubuntu or Kubuntu instead of Ubuntu Studio?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 12, 2010
Would Xubuntu be a good version of Ubuntu to add a lot of 2D and 3D graphics programs and Rosegarden to or would Kubuntu be better to use? I don't want to install Ubuntu Studio because it has way more than I need in it and I'm not a big fan of Gnome and pulseaudio. Thanks for any help.
Compiz or that type of Effects, Ubuntu Studio 12.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 7, 2012
Can Ubuntu Studio use compiz? I know Mint can, as that is what I run on the other partition, however, I want to use the low latency kernel of Studio to enhance gaming further. I know the effects will take a toll on performance, but, that is not an issue with my setup. Thanks.
