How to determine kernel version and patches in Ubuntu?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 1, 2008
How does one figure out what changes are included in various Ubuntu packages such as linux-image? I was hoping to find a something like a Changelog for the package, for example.
I looked at:
but couldn't find anything promising.
In this particular case, I'm looking to update from Hardy to Intrepid, but I'd like to know the exact kernel version and set of patches applied to the kernel package in Intrepid. In particular, I want to know which set of patches regarding the e1000e networking bug are present. I think a fix was included in Linux 220.127.116.11.
Check for latest kernel version
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 10, 2011
I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu Netbook remix (10.10) and I have a very straightforward question which can apply to any flavor of linux.
How can I find out if there is an available update (or patch) to the kernel I'm currently running?
I've read mention of commands like 'up2date' or 'yum'. Some of these command will list all updates available for your whole system. I'm looking to focus only on finding available updates for the kernel.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a way to show the version that will say like RedHat Linux Enterprise version x and release x.
