Hello World Java Applet Won't display in Firefox for Ubuntu
location: linuxexchange.com - date: December 17, 2013
Hi guys I'm having some trouble running my first applet on Java. I'm pretty new to Ubuntu but here's what I have so far....
For my HelloWorldApplet.java file:
import java.awt.Graphics;
public class HelloWorldApplet extends java.applet.Applet{
public void paint(Graphics g) {
g.drawString("Hello World!",5,25);
}
}
Then I compiled it into a HelloWorldApplet.class file. Here is my html code:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE> Hello to Everyone!</TITLE>
</HEAD> <BODY>
<body bgcolor = red>
<P> My Java applet says:
<APPLET CODE="HelloWorldApplet.class" WIDTH=150 HEIGHT=25>
</BODY>
</HTML>
When I try to open it with mozilla firefox, it doesn't display the hello world message it only has "My Java applet says:" With the red background.
I've also ran this java code as a application and it works fine. When I try to run it using appletviewer it works about half the time... Sometime I would see the applet window with the text

Cannot enable Java in Firefox on Ubuntu and IcedTeaWeb Java Console GUI will not open
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I am trying to enable Java in Firefox on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I have openjdk-7-jre:amd64 and icedtea-7-plugin:amd64 installed.
Neither javatester.org or www.java.com detect Java (they don't report anything).
I can run itweb-settings with options on the command line. When I run it with no options (starting the GUI), it runs but does nothing other than bring up the splash screen and then put the icon in the toolbar. It does not exit, and it does not put anything in ~/.config/icedtea-web/log.
I am wondering why it installed packages :amd and whether that is the cause of my problem, but I've reached the limit of my google-search abilities in diagnosing.
uname -m reports x86_64.
java -version reports "1.7.0_79".
Configure Java 7 Firefox Plugin on 64Bit Cent OS
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I configured Java on my Cent OS 64-bit machine by running the following command
yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk.x86_64
But I cannot find the "libnpjp2.so" file as mentioned here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/manual-plugin-install-linux-136395.html
It was supposed to be dead easy! -_-
Intel Atom 330 Ubuntu 64bit or 32bit
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 25, 2009
Hi there!
Maybe this is a simple question. I installed Ubuntu 32bit on my new Intel Atom 330 based system. Works great. Then I read somewhere that Intel Atom 330 was 64bit prepared. What does this mean?
What should I run? 64bit or 32bit Ubuntu server?
Will there be any benefits (performance, stability etc etc)?
Thanks alot!
Best regards,
Niclas Lindberg
LXer: Ubuntu 64bit More Competitive Against Mac OS X
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 18, 2009
Published at LXer:
Last week we published Ubuntu 9.04 vs. Mac OS X 10.5.6 benchmarks where we compared the performance of these two popular operating systems on a Mac Mini. With the OS X kernel currently being 32-bit but with support for 64-bit applications, we had used the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 9.04. In a majority of the Leopard operating system from Apple outperformed Canonical's Jaunty Jackalope, but today we are adding in the results from an Ubuntu 64-bit installation. As you can see from the results, the x86_64 version of Ubuntu Linux is more competitive against Mac OS X 10.5.6.

firefox on ubuntu vs Vista!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 11, 2009
ok. i've just noticed that i've taken to using ubuntu 9.04 MUCH more often!
for some reason everytime i'm in vista and try to browse the internet, in vista,
firefox will pop up with that message 'could not connect to server'. when i know for a fact that my connection is perfectly fine...
it's maddening! because i have to click the 'ok' button on the pop up and when i try to navigate somewhere else. i will just click the link i want to go to and the can't connect to the server message will appear again. then i just keep clicking back and forth until it actaully works. (about 4-10 times)
in ubuntu. i NEVER have that problem of unreasponsive internet...
does anyone else share this experience?
can anyone tell me why this is happening?
