HowTo Install the Latest Firefox in Ubuntu (Ultimate HowTo)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 24, 2005
What's the issue?
Ubuntu updates its software versions every six months with a new release. Mozilla, however, upgrades Firefox every month or two--sometimes every week--with security patches or new feature-based releases. Ubuntu often includes security patches with its own versions a day or a week after Mozilla releases their patches, but many Ubuntu users are impatient and would prefer to install the latest version of Firefox from Mozilla and use that instead of the Ubuntu build of Firefox.
Basically almost all of the methods outlined below do essentially the same thing--download Firefox from the Mozilla website and use that instead of Ubuntu's Firefox. Most also "install" Firefox to the /opt directory.
What are the methods?
Manual - This involves copying and pasting a lot of terminal commands to get Firefox fully integrated with your system. If you want to learn some terminal commands and get to know your system a little better, this is a great way to install the latest

May have contracted malware. Yes, malware. Firefox on Ubuntu Fiesty. Seeking a fix

Howdy.
Me:
Barely post-newbie, came to linux from Mac and then Windows, have been using Ubuntu almost exclusively for just over a year. Good brain for problem-solving, still on the steep side of the Linux learning curve, and a mostly cook-book level of CLI use.
System:
Asus mobo, 1.6GHz, 1.5GB, Intel 32, running Ubuntu Fiesty (7.10), and Firefox w/Adblock, Fasterfox, NoScript, and Ubufox extensions (I think it's version 2.0.0.3, but I'm not sure, and I don't dare open it to check the version, as it will probably mean shutting down the box for ANOTHER hard boot. I have recently had a very occasional BIOS beep code for "video ram or video card problem", but it's an older box, and I've been living with it. I don't think this is related to the current problem.
Problem:
I was tired, chasing down info about HTML, and allowed NoScript temporary permission to run a script on a site that seemed harmless enough, and wasn't loading the content promised. Got a

Firefox on Ubuntu Slow and Sluggish
location:
linuxquestions.com - date:
December 3, 2008
Hi I have ubuntu installed in both, my laptop HP nx7400 and my desktop AMD64 2Gb Ram, asus motherboard.
Firefox comes with Ubuntu 8.1 pre installed. It worked for a little while but after several updates to the system it gets really slow, I mean impossible to use slow. This is true for both computers. In the laptop I did a fresh install of Ubuntu not long ago, the desktop I installed ubuntu a long time ago and both show the exact same problem.
I was surprised that a google search on this problem returned no relevant results. Am I alone? Is this a
[email protected]@ linux virus which affects only my computers :)? No serious, any idea how to get firefox working? Opera works no problem but I'm (was) more confortable with firefox, syncing my bookmarks etc.
Thanks
Ubuntu 64bit, where is libQtNetwork.so.4?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 27, 2010
Hello!
Ok, I have one problem with the program called skype-called-recorder....It just doesn't open...
And the terminal says: skype-call-recorder: error while loading shared libraries: libQtNetwork.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So, I guess the problem is this libqtnetwork.so.4...but I don't know what to do to fix it.
Can you help me please?!
My ubuntu version is the 10.10 64bit.
Thank you.
Firefox on Ubuntu 9.10 can't play Quicktime Streaming
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 1, 2009
I'm new to Ubuntu and I got the latest release which is Karmic Koala. Being a long time Windows user at work and Apple user at home, I really like Ubuntu so far and I'm quite positive I'll get to like it more in the days to come.
Just one problem though, Firefox can't play Quicktime streaming video. I've tried quite a lot of suggested fixes but no luck so far.
Maybe the experts here can help out a newbie. Thanks.
