Howto install Flash debug player plugin for Firefox in Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 25, 2009
Hi everyone,
This took me the better part of the day so I thought this might be a good opportunity to give something back to this great forum! : o )
There's a lot of articles and blog posts out there about 64 bit flash debug player plugin and how to do it, but none worked for me.
Bad news, the problem is, which you probably know if you have found this article, that there is no 64 bit flash DEBUG player, and as of now Adobe has no plans to make one.
Good news, if you install the flash plugin via apt-get you will get a 32 bit plugin and the nspluginwrapper which makes it possible to run 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit browser, niice. All we have to do now is to replace the flash players shared object file with the 32 bit debug version.
Step by step:
uninstall any kind of flash plug you have at the moment, make sure it's gone. (this was my problem, probably had the real 64 bit plug installed and there were multiple libflashplayer.so spread all over the place. Make sure you clean out any flas
Firefox java applet cache
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 6, 2007
Hi Everyone,
I'm working on writing a Java applet and am doing testing/debugging on my local machine (Kubuntu 7.04 in Firefox 2). I have a problem in that reloading my test page does not reload the applet (i.e. if I change the applet and put new class files in the Web directory, the browser still displays the "old" applet on reload). The only way to get the new applet is to close and restart Firefox (just clearing the cache doesn't seem to help).
I thought this might have something to do with Applet caching in the JVM, but I think it's only for jar files, but just to be safe I opened the Java ControlPanel and turned off caching -- to no effect. I also tried adding a no-cache pragma to the HTML code -- again, no help. Does anyone have any idea how to make Firefox reload the applet class files when I reload the page?
HOWTO: Install LDOCE5 on Ubuntu 64bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 22, 2010
After spending some time I managed to install the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 5th edition (LDOCE5) on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) 64-bit and I want to share my experience.
On the cd there is a file LINUX_README.txt which says that if you want to launch the installer in graphical mode you have to install libgtk1.2. libgtk1.2 is not available in Karmic (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s....2/+bug/478219) and although there are ways to install it (e.g. http://www.rabbnix.com/vb/showthread.php?t=979), it is easier to install it from the console.
According to http://pearsonsupport.helpserve.com/...barticleid=115, LDOCE5 should work on Ubuntu 9.04+ on both architectures. However, when I tried to run linux/setup.sh, I got following error:
The setup program seems to have failed on amd64/glibc-2.1
Fatal error, no tech support email configured in this setup
After investigating the script setup.sh I noticed that it determines the archite

Dear all,
I am trying to get the ubuntu 12.04 server image on my centos server (no gui) before performing a virtual machine install in xen.
Whenever I run

I receive the following output before downloading the 32bit version:

firefox java plugin not working
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 1, 2010
Dear LQers,
Greetings !!. I have both firefox-3.0.18 and java installed on my RHEL5 64-bit system. But for some reasons, java plugin is not working in firefox.
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_18"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_18-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.0-b13, mixed mode)
As per previous recommendation from this forum, I made soft link for libjavaplugin_jni.so in firefox/plugins directory.
But still it doesn't show up when I type aboutlugins in the browser, and error is shown in the public java test pages.
I am aware that I am working with 64-bit versions.
Thanks for your time and valuable suggestions !!.
