Firefox very slow to load web pages
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 20, 2012
I'm having trouble loading web pages with Firefox 17.0.1. They load extremely slow or not at all.
I'm using a Dell XPS Laptop - CPU Intel i7-2760 @ 240ghx8, 64bit OS with 8gb of ram.
The laptop was dual booted with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.
I started having problems then so I wiped the Hd (I thought the antivirus in windows had set up some kind of firewall) and installed Ubuntu 12.10
I still have the same problem. In Firefox I disabled all the extensions, and plug-ins; didn't work. I then tried reseting Firefox, that didn't work either.
I thought it might be a hardware problem so I tried a UBS wireless card and it's the same thing.
The download speed varies from 39mbs to 6mbs..
The laptop seems to work well for awhile, then slows down to a crawl!
Also my old laptop with Vista and Internet Explorer works fine. When dual booted IE also worked fine.
There other people complaining on line so I don't think it's the incoming cable modem.
I assume it's then a
Firefox very slow

Lately I notice that Firefox seems very slow and unresponsive. Has anyone else noticed this?
I am using Ubuntu 12.04, all the latest updates. I am learning Chinese, so I have various Chinese dictionary pages open. I am using ibus Chinese input. When I type, the letters appear very slowly. This does not change if I quit ibus.
Typing in LibreOffice the speed is normal. There is a delay caused when using Firefox. It is very annoying.
Also, when I click another tab in Firefox, the response time is slow. Something is wrong.
Any idea what might cause this? This has only been like this for a couple of weeks.
I installed Chromium. There is no delay. This is definitely a Firefox problem!!
Firefox *VERY* slow (both v16 and v17)

I'm seeing really slow performance from firefox (both v16 and beta 17). I'm on 12.04 lts. My system is a core i7 so it's fast and also have activated the nvidia drivers.
I'm only seeing slow performance in firefox. (Chrome is much faster and even opera is faster too.)
Take this site as a simple example https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+...e/firefox-next.
Click on the green link there to expand the "Technical details about this PPA"
In firefox when it opens down, the animation is very choppy and is like frame by frame.
In opera it's much better and in chrome it's really smooth.
Firefox VERY slow to open and then Unresponsive.

Don't know why. When I got home today my internet was not working, unplugged the cable modem, plugged it back in. That didn't seem to work so I restarted the computer. When I came back the Internet was working but firefox was taking a VERY long time to open and then once I did it was unresponsive right away and then it would work again for a very short amount of time and then righ back to unresponsive and that's how it has been acting for a few hours now. I'm useing.... a different browser right now. lol.
Acer C720 will connect to wireless networks, but won't load web pages from majority
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 31, 2014
I have an Acer C720 Chromebook, running a dual boot of Chrome OS and Ubuntu 14.04.
When using Chrome OS, I can connect to and use private and public wireless networks with no problems. With Ubuntu, I can also connect to all networks, but with the vast majority of networks I have tried, I cannot use the internet; the standard 'Server Not Found' screen appears when trying to load up web pages, for example.
I find it strange that I can use certain networks with no problems, but not others. The only difference I have noticed is that one which worked was WPA protected, while others are WEP (this may be an irrelevant point).
Here is the result of my wireless script.
Thanks in advance!

Connected to wifi networks but unable to load web pages 14.04, Acer C720
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 20, 2014
I'm a new linux user after installing ubuntu 14.04 on my Acer C720 chromebook (dual boot). I don't have internet at home so I'm relying on public wifi at cafes, libraries, university, etc. I have no problems accessing the internet in chromeOS, just in Ubuntu.
I was able to connect to a public network on Saturday without problem, but couldn't connect to a public network with a login gate last night nor a network without a login gate. The only thing I did since Saturday was click 'disable wi-fi' in the network drop-down menu, then re-enabled it.
I get a 'connected to network x' message, but firefox cannot load pages and the software center cannot download applications.
I would be very happy to learn more about network troubleshooting, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Not having internet at home makes this whole process much more frustrating.

Mozilla Firefox 12 is very slow on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 9, 2012
Mozilla Firefox 12 is very slow on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I'm saying this because I'm using it side by side with PC. I doubt that hardware acceleration was enabled with Firefox on Ubuntu, even with css animation, it lags just like my grand dad. So, how can I check it?
I have enabled the option in advance tab. I have installed my GPU driver, however my ATI Radeon HD5650 GPU on my laptop is VESA: MADISON in system detail, is this all right?
I still can't change to Chromium because it is very buggy unlike Chrome, and with its boring add-on/extension, I don't think I would want to change soon. Opera is a good deal but it can't render my language correctly. So, Firefox is my only choice, even on PC, and it's the fastest browser on PC, and the slowest browser on Ubuntu. Please help me fix this, thanks.
Very slow firefox when playing flash
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 15, 2009
I have recently installed fedora 11. The problem that i have (with very fedora distro) is that the firefox is very slow particularly when playing flash videos. The scrolling is very slow and the CPU usage is very high.
I now use ubuntu and i don't have any of these problems. I suspect there is something wrong with my video card.
My video card is the ATI mobility radeon 9700. I tried many ways to install the drivers by using the livna repo and also using the official drivers from ati.com.
All of the bring the same result. The system only boots in command line and the X server cannot start.
Does anyone know why this is happening to fedora and not to ubuntu?
