Ubuntu and Bind Named log file is not logging info after syslogd restarts
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 7, 2009
Ubuntu ver 8.04.1 and Bind ver 9.4.2
I've set this up as a primary dns server, Bind is the only thing running on it, no gui, etc. I followed the default settings so I have a named.conf, named.conf.options, and named.conf.local file.
I have a log file I labeled as named.log in this path /var/log/bind. I'm using logrotate to rotate out the file.
My problem is that after syslogd restarts in the morning. My named.log file don't start logging info until I restart Bind. The new named.log file gets created and the old files rotate out and compress. All of the other log files in /var/log, syslog, messages, mail, etc, rotate out and compress like they should, after syslogd restarts.
Anyone have a suggestion on how I can solve this problem? I know that I could restart Bind using Cron but I shouldn't have to.
Below are snips of the files I'm using.
I named this one 'bind' and it's in the directory /etc/logrotate.d
/var/log/bind/named.log {

Hello Everyone,
I was not sure if I should report this as a bug before taking your opinions. But I have been using Ubuntu-10.10 Server to create KVM guests.
I used virt-install and vmbuilder tools to create these images. Using both I get the same error: operation failed: failed to retrieve chardev info in qemu with 'info char dev'
Here are some more details:

At the beginning I was thinking the problem might be with vmbuilder or virt-install. Here are the c

ubuntu file where dualmonitor info is stored???
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 12, 2009
Right now I dual boot my laptop between ubuntu and gentoo. Like most laptops, it has a VGA out port where I can connect it to a monitor. When I connect the monitor in Ubuntu, it displays it and it all works beautifully. In the "Screen Resolution" settings app under GNOME, it will detect the display and let me configure it.
In Gentoo, however, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to get Xinerama working to have a similar setup. I've followed the various tutorials for xorg.conf. Part of the issue may be that when I run "X -configure" it doesn't detect both displays.
What I'm wondering is, what does Ubuntu use to provide dual monitor support? Is it xinerama? Where can I find the files where the configuration is stored, so that I can find out how it's configured in the working Ubuntu and use the same configuration in Gentoo?
Thanks!
dhclient dns info from ISP not reaching resolvconf
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 5, 2012
I have 12.04 on a gateway machine with 2 interfaces and eth0 gets its IP address and the DNS server IP addresses for the whole LAN from the ISP via the ADSL modem.
I want dhclient from isc-dhcp-client to pass the ISP DNS info to resolvconf to put into the /etc/resolv.conf but this isn't happening.
I know the DNS IPs are coming in from the modem at DHCP time because I put some debugging into /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolvconf and I can see them coming through. The IP addresses just never make it into /etc/resolv.conf.
Up until now, I've been using another machine as the lan's gateway with debian etch and I want to get it running on this new machine with ubuntu.
I installed the standard ubuntu and it had network-manager installed, so I de-installed that since I'll be using this box with no changes to the network in the long term.
I've dpkg-reconfigured both isc-dhcp-client and resolvconf but still no joy.
My guess is that the issue is either a) due to remo
