how do I install Arch Linux when I already have Ubuntu installed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 19, 2008
ok I originally made a post here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...tition-643088/ called "is-it-possible-to-install-arch-without-burning" but after reading the how to on that subject I decided that it would probably be easier just to burn the ARCH ISO and just reboot then install it from there . the problem is it doesn't show ( or I cannot see) the partitions that where made by my Ubuntu hardy install when I installed Ubuntu Hardy I made the swap, and then a 10 gig partition then I installed hardy onto the largest partition ( which was what was left on my hard drive) I wanted to install Arch on a partition ( 10 GIGs) but like I said I don't see that option when I boot from the Arch cd. I tryed to go into the Arch forums but the forum wouldn't show anything so I did a search "install" and of course it showed allot of post about installing various things onto Arch . I guess my setup on these forums isn't set up properly for me just to browse the Arch forums. anyw
Which distro do you find works the best ?
location: linux.com - date: May 9, 2011
I have been distro-hopping for about a year now, and tried the following: Opensuse, Ubuntu, PClinuxOS, Chakra, Crunchbang, Linux Mint, Sabayon, Bodhi Linux, Jolicloud, Kuki Linux, Debian, Vector, Peppermint, and I have tried to install Pardus, but never got the live USB working .
So I personally find that out of the distros I tried, Linux Mint and Crunchbang are the best . Although I have high expectations for Pardus, I have yet to try it ..

For the following reasons don't install or recommend Ubuntu.
1. Development of Ubuntu is led by Canonical, Ltd. a UK-based "trading" company which generates revenue through the sale of "technical support" and "services."
2. By installing users agree to allow Ubuntu's parent company Canonical to collect user search data and IP addresses and to disclose this information to third parties including Facebook, Twitter, BBC and Amazon.
3. The adwares and spywares introduced in Ubuntu violates user's privacy and is one of the rare occasions in which a free software developer persists in keeping a malicious feature in its version of a program.
4. Whenever user searches the local files for a string using Ubuntu desktop, Ubuntu sends that string to one of Canonical's servers.
5. Ubuntu has received widespread objection from the open source community for violating free system distribution guidelines.
6. Canonical disgruntled upstream open source developers by introduc

How do i tell if 32 bit or 64 bit ubuntu is installed on a machine?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 29, 2008
I've tried all the uname options. uname -m says "x86_64", but that might just be describing the hardware, not the software. In /boot, in config-2.6.24-16, CONFIG_64BIT=Y, so maybe that means it's 64-bit?
