Games Randomly closes.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 26, 2010
When I try running some games, it sometimes just randomly closes. No error message, no abnormal symptoms before, like glitches, noises etc. It just closes...
The games run smoothly and I am running linux drivers from ATi site.
The two titles i tested were:
- OpenArena (linux version of Quake3 Arena)
- Guildwars (via Wine, PlayOnLinux)
My lappy is:
- Dell Studio 1535
- Intel Core2Duo 2.0 GHz
- 2GB DDR2 mem
- 250 GB HDD
- ATi Radeon HD 3450, 256MB
- Ubuntu 10.10 - 32bit
Also, my lappy tends to run very warm even on idle...
keyboard input randomly stops while playing games
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 7, 2013
While playing some games, Minecraft and Team Fortress 2 on Steam, my keyboard randomly stops sending keypresses to the computer. I am using a Logitec K350 wireless keyboard and mouse set and the mouse continutes to work when this happens. When it starts working again it seems to send all the input at the same time so several movements happen at the same time. It doesn't seem to happen at any specific time while playing the games. It also doesn't happen outside of games. Any idea why this is happening?
Skype closes itself randomly with video chat.

Mint 15 Olivia x64 Mate
Skype direct from the repos. I can stay on a voice call all day long with no issue. However when I start video chat it seems to close the entire skype randomly. The other day my video chat lasted 1 1/2 hours before skype closed itself. Yesterday only 10 minutes or so. When I say close I mean closed, as in have to restart skype altogether.
Nothing else has this problem. My time on mint has been far more successful than my debian attempts. I have migrated entirely to mint. Haven't booted windows in a week or so and see no reason to (unless i need itunes for phone). Would really like to solve this. I'm hoping it's something fixable and not just a skype problem that I can't do anything about.

Joli OS and Linux Games plus applications question
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 1, 2012
Hey guys
im looking into getting Joli OS, i never had a blackberry or anything to do with apps and im very curious what its like, as i cant afford a new phone, joli os looks awsome since i can do it from my pc
And the fact that i heard it has local files, and synaptic, and all that cool stuff is excellent because it seems i can still do my general linux stuff
But heres the issue, i heard that you need a local operating system ontop of joli os, but im unsure
so like, if i get joli OS, i still want to use my linux apps, like rythmbox, secondlife, nvidia graphics drivers, pulseaudio
secondlife requires alot of the codecs that ubuntu installs on installation when u select add extras, and packages from ubuntu restricted extras, and nvidia drivers
But i have no idea how to set that up, so i thought id come here for advice. on how to go about using jolicloud as an OS and still using all my linux programs

Virtualize or dual boot for games?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 7, 2011
Hello, everyone. In my recent tribulations getting Linux based tools working at work I've gotten a lot of good answers just by searching here. But since this question is very subjective, and details are important, my searches just weren't quite working out.
I've been using Linux off and on since 94, Slackware... a stack of floppies as long as my arm. I say off and on because I've always been of the opinion that Windows had a superior selection of ready-to-run desktop software... I still think that's true, but since I'm pushing open source more at work ($44K a year to use Exchange? Seriously?) I figure it's time to throw in behind it at home, too.
My biggest hangup with a total transition is gaming. I can handle my desktop suite needs just fine with Open/LibreOffice and Seamonkey. The limited work I do with graphics and sound can be handled just as easily with existing open source applications (though I'm not really sure about video playback, yet. Finding good codecs for HD video
please wait...
