Trying to install Debian Having trouble
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 3, 2012
This is my second try at installing Debian with the cd/dvd that I burned.
I'm in a dual boot with Windows XP and I am trying to swap with Ubuntu.
So far this is where I get during the install than I run into a problem.
1. In the partition Mgr I deleted every partition except the Windows stuff.
2. I make a new partition for the Debian install and include the / for the mount and that goes well.
But when I make the next new partition for the swap space (1GB) and click continue it shows me: ext journal filesystem &
The word swap does not appear anywhere on that page to highlight it.
And, it turns the 1 GB partition that I made for the swap into 999.9 GB when I go back one click to correct the size-
Any ideas? I'm not sure what is going on here.
Should I have made the swap first?
How mant CDs do you NEED to install Debian?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 16, 2005
Do you really need all seven? I know you need the first two if you want X. I would do a net install, but the kernel didnt support my ethernet. (Marvell Yukon Gigabit LAN on an ASUS P5AD2 Premium motherboard) anyone know where I can get the kernel module or something for it so I dont have to use all seven CDS only to have to web access later on (Using Sarge)
How can I install debian stable (multiple cds) without burning the isos?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 15, 2005
I have tried to find a debian stable DVD ISO, eighter a torrent or on a ftp-server near me, but have had no success. I was going to do this by mountig the iso on loopback after starting from a slackware cdrom.
So, if none knows any ftp-server in sweden or finland or such, or know where I can find a torrent, I'd like to know how to install from multiple cds.

How to install Debian from a SATA DVDROM drive
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 14, 2008
Ok, I have installed debian before but I just built a new computer and I would like to install it in it, but when I try to install it. Debian does not come with the drivers for the SATA dvd rom drive, and it asks me to specify if I have them on a disk; which I don't have. How can I fix this? The answer will be appreciated.

No GUI log in or gnome on new install debian 6.0.1
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 29, 2011
This is a new system with Intel 3.2 E5800, Biostar c31m+ MB and Sparkle PCIe2.0 video card with Nvidia Geforce 210 chipset.
As expected I did not have GUI after install, so I did as in the past as follows with other systems with nvidia chipsets.
I inserted "nomodeset" in appropriate place in grub. Installed SMXI with no problems. Installed latest nvidia driver which failed, tried the default debian and it failed, then I tried one of the middle ones, it reconized my card and installed fine (according to SMXI).
When I boot it still goes to tty.
What am I overlooking? Thanks, Jon
