Can someone help me installing a game pls?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 24, 2010
Hello fellow Ubuntu's and Linux fans ( someone?)
I'm pretty new to Linux (since a week) and i discovered several problems with installing games, for example trials of my favorite style of games, Hidden objects, and today i downloaded the game ARX Fatalis. It's extracted in my folder but i can't seem to install the game. I opened every file but this is the answer i get (I deleted my name in that line): Could not display "/home/NAME/ARX_FATALIS (G)1/setup1.cab". There is no application installed for Microsoft Cabinet-archief files
Does anyone know how to install that game pls?
And If someone knows how to install my hidden objects games it would be a great pleasure for me!
PS: what's that deal with the prefix? No idea if i choose the right one
Will Ubuntu Work for me?

I have an older laptop, the specs are below. A few years back, my buddy and I put XP on it. It could barely handle it. The machine sat for a years and we decided to put a bunch of kids games on it for my children. So I took it out of the closet, fired it up and it hung on start up. I tried fixing with various windows disk but no joy. Couldn't get Windows to load. In an attempt to make sure my HDD wasn't dead, I downloaded and installed a Linux Live CD (I don't recall which one). that seemed to work fine, except the graphics were terrible. I think that was because the machine is so old. So I was thinking that if a version of Linux would work on it, I would give it a try. I have always wanted to try it. Please look over the specs and let me know if you think Ubuntu or some other version of Linux will run on this machine. It had Windows 98 before XP.

Help me find an (ultra) portable gaming laptop
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 6, 2013
I am looking for a laptop that I could use as a Linux gaming laptop.
It needs to be able to run Spring / Zero-K, Achron, and everything in the Humble Bundles so far.
My current laptop is an Asus UL30VT which gives me 8 hours of battery life with discrete graphics off, and lets me play most of the games I want to play. However, it gets slow with Zero-K and Dungeon Defenders (Humble Bundle 7).
My best choice right now seems to be Asus UX32VD-DH71.
However, This review says that the battery life sucks.
My preferred specs:
Weight: 1.5 KG / 3 LB
Size: 13-14 inch
Screen: 1920x1080 (Not going to buy a smaller one)
Battery: 8 hours with discrete graphics disabled (Probably going for an Optimus laptop)
CPU: Core i7 preferred (Spring/Zero-K is CPU intensive), others ok too
Price: prefer under 1000 EUR / 1300 USD
For a really good one willing to go up to 1200 EUR / 1500 USD
I will upgrade memory and disk if they are not adequate.
Obviously it's better if someone has teste

Help me build a gaming PC?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 3, 2007
It's the holiday season and I'm afraid I have not been keeping up with the trends of processors and video cards these days and I would like some advice, after searching around the net I found this site now THAT is the best build I ever saw for a gaming PC. On the other hand I found this so I was wondering if I can build a "clone" of that PC or would it be much cheaper to...iono....look for other builds?

I'm looking for a poker game on linux (ubuntu gutsy) that will teach me to play with a step-by-step tutorial-type thing. Or something. Not sure what I want really, other than I learn better by example than instruction.

Is Linux Right For Me?
location: linux.com - date: April 11, 2010
I hate windows, hate hate hate, and that alone is probably reason enough to switch, but I am worried about things with linux..... Mainly I use my comp for school, downloading content via piratebay/isohunt, light gaming (have an xbox 360), media (HDMI to TV), you know, the normal stuff, here are a few questions I have....
How easy is it to switch?
Will I still be able to do those things I have listed?
What distro is good for me?
I have heard linux isn't very pretty (doesn't matter too much, just wondering) but how bad is it?
Any key advice for a new user?
I really want to make the switch, but I use my computer constantly and can't afford too much downtime, I am fairly good with a computer, just do not do any programming stuff,
Thanks for any help and I really appreciate it,
