[SOLVED] Installing 32 bit RPMs on 64 bit Linux conflicts with 64 bit packages
- date: August 18, 2011
I'm using a 64 bit Linux server (OEL 6.1):
~]# uname -r
I was trying to install Oracle Database on this server that I realized the installer requires some 32 bit libraries. For instance it was looking for libXp.so.6 which existed under /usr/lib64, but not /usr/lib.
Even when I changed the installation script to look into lib64 for the library, it failed with an error from Java that it needs 32 bit and instead has found 64 bit.
I downloaded a bunch of 32 bit RPM packages and when I tried to install them, I got the error that a newer version of those packages is installed, which is not the case. Cause all previously installed packages are 64 bit. I was wondering why it thinks that 64 bit packages are newer version of 32 bit packages. And is there a way to solve this?
~]# rpm -ivh libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-31.i386.rpm expat-1.95.8-9.i386.rpm libXau-1.0.1

Hi, I am pretty new to Ubuntu and I am thinking about creating a home server but I have both 32 & 64 bit computers I would like to connect to it...
Can I do this?
I could run the server OS on a 32 or 64 bit PC, but I don't know whether only 32bit can connect to 32bit server etc as I've never played with servers before or if any particular setup would be best.
I am running ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS (one on 32bit, one on 64bit) and was going to use ubuntu 12.04 server maybe?
Any help would be appreciated.
Problems installing Informix csdk on linux 11.04 64 bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 19, 2011
Our configuration is
HP 64-bit Ubuntu Linux 11.04, 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.2
I am trying to install the Informix CSDK to connect to our Informix database but am having problems. I downloaded CSDK 3.50.FC4DE, untarred in the informix directory. When I run the install script ./installclientsdk the screen refreshes, there are about 6 blanks lines then I get this message
initializing InstallShield Wizard.....
Extracting Bundled JRE
Then I get the OS prompt. I get the same results when trying to only install the connector. Does anyone know if this is indeed the correct Informix client sdk to use for Ubuntu 64-bit Linux 11.04? Has anyone else run into this problem and/or know how to resolve?
Thanks in advance.

Mysql in linux 8.10 64 bit (how to uninstall first)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 27, 2009
Yesterday i finally recieved my laptop that i intend to use for programming. I installed Ubuntu, but I'm not good at it yet. I use guides for every step that i make in the terminal. In the end i do manage to get most things working, but mysql is an exception.
The mysql book that I'm using suggested me to download the most recent server and client rpm files. when i did this i found out that ubuntu cannot treat these. A website suggested to convert them into .deb using alien. Afterwards sudo could be used to install them. Well i did this, and i try to log in into mysql but i get some strange error concerning files.
I suddenly found out that ubuntu already had (parts ?) of mysql installed. maybe the installation that i did messed this up ? So now i'm trying to find a way to get rid of all the mysql stuff to do a clean install after (maybe use a tar file instead so i dont have to use alien). The synaptic package manager does show anything mysql related though (wh
