GIMP keyboard shortcuts not working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 2, 2010
I'm trying ctrl + c (copy), ctrl + v (paste), ctrl + x (cut), and delete (clear) after selecting parts of the image with the lasso or wand tool, etc. They just don't work, I have to open up the edit menu for them to work.
I also tried the keyboard shortcut settings under Edit -> Keyboard Preferences, the key presses are definitely detected as they are with every other program.
Any ideas?
Edit: Okay, this is really stupid. Sorry guys, I realized that the problem was gimpbox wasn't making it do anything.
Keyboard Shortcuts not working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 4, 2013
Hi guys.
Im having some problems with the default keyboard shortcuts on my box, currently running Ubuntu 12.04 fully updated.
The issue is that some of the shortcuts work.. and some dont. For example, volume up, down and mute are not working.. (special keyboard media keys), but play/pause, next and back are working fine.
Lock screen is not working.. not even if i change the default configuration to another.. and not even generating a custom shortcut to "gnome-screensaver-command -l"
Keyboard is detected fine:
Code:
$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0bc2:3300 Seagate RSS LLC
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:c517 Logitech, Inc. LX710 Cordless Desktop Laser
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
And the keys are also working ok.
Code:
$ sudo showkey
press any key (program terminates 10s after last keypress)...
keycode 115 press
keycode 115 release
keycode 113 pres
keyboard shortcuts not working

Hi all,
I haven't posted here in a while, mostly because my Ubuntu experience has been fairly smooth for a long time. I've just hit a problem that I haven't been able to resolve for myself, however.
I am running KDE4 as my desktop manager and none of my system keyboard shortcuts are working! That is, no alt+f2 for krunner, no alt+f1 for menu, not even alt+f4 for window closing (the most annoying).
I looked through my ~/.xsessionerrors and saw nothing untoward. I have tried logging out and logging back in (no effect) and I have tried restarting X (no effect). I have not yet tried restarting the computer.
With my research I came across several antiquated posts (2008-ish) that no longer seemed relevant. One solution I saw that I didn't try (because I don't want to rebuild my environment) was to delete my ~/.kde folder.
Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
gnomeshell most keyboard shortcuts not working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 29, 2012
Jumped onto the precise band wagon tonight (which I usually do around beta time) and my gnome-shell keyboard shortcuts stopped working. Specifically, Ctrl+Alt+t no longer opens a terminal, my maximization shortcuts no longer work, navigation shortcuts don't work. I've defined and redefined them in the shortcut editor w/out luck.
Strangely enough, custom app shortcuts do work.
Running gnome-shell v3.3.90 on a Lenovo Thinkpad 410s.
Ubuntu 14.04 CTRLALT keyboard shortcuts not working (again)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 9, 2014
Hi,
i installed Ubuntu 14.04 in VirtualBox. I have Qt Creator installed. I cannot use the Ctrl-Alt-Up and Ctrl-Alt-Down shortcuts (nothing happens). I know that the keyboard management really sucks in Ubuntu since the competing management tools (e.g. ccsm, gconf-editor, system settings, unity-tweak-tool etc etc.) all override each other and it is a big mess.
I remember having the same issue in 10.04 or 11.04. Is there a uberglobal setting that would override all the rest? Where to begin finding out who is eating up my keyboard shortcut?
Regards

Compiz keyboard shortcuts not working as of recently
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 27, 2014
Okay, i'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.
My wife is visually impaired and uses the compiz "Enhanced zoom desktop" and "negative" features, which she needs in order to use the computer. Recently, the shortcut keys we have set for those stopped working, and now I can't get them to work, even if I reset them to something else.
for zoom desktop, we had it so that there were three different zoom levels. she could toggle between them by hitting Super+1, super+2, or super+3. Similarly, for negative, she could control the screen or window by using super+n or super+m.
Now, pressing those key combinations does nothing. I tried going into the compiz settings and changing the shortcuts to other things (cntrl+alt+1, for example) and still nothing.
anyone have any idea what is wrong? She can't use the computer until we get this figured out, and she already has a love/hate relationship with technology. lol. Thanks!
p.s. if it makes a difference, I use unity on my account b
keyboard shortcuts not working at all in 13.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 9, 2013
I just installed Xubuntu 13.04 (fresh install). Everything works great except keyboard shortcuts. None work. This is of the default setting or if I change the defaults to be something else.
I've seen previous threads with similar issues but none of those solutions seem to help here.
Is there some logging I can turn on that might help me figure this out?
After Ubuntu 14.04 upgrade, Gnome3 keyboard shortcuts not working
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 20, 2014
I've just upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04. Quite a few problems along the way, but I've managed to get everything working again except that my keyboard shortcuts in Gnome are not working. For example, I have ctl-alt-/ bound to the terminal launcher. Nothing now happens when I use that shortcut. I've gone into Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts, and re-assigned the shortcut. Still not working. I've tried different key combinations, also not working, and tried creating a custom shortcut in case the launch terminal command is borked somehow. Standard keyboard actions like alt-tab, etc, are working fine, it's just my custom settings that are not working.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks,
Ian
Keyboard shortcuts not working on update to 12.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 18, 2012
Several keyboard shortcuts are no longer working after an upgrade to 12.04. Media keys for controlling play/pause, previous/next track no longer work. I set the shortcuts in System Settings -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts, but when I use the shortcuts I get a big black square with a "no" symbol, and no action.
Other keyboard shortcuts just won't work unless I open the Keyboard preferences dialog first, as above.
Finally, one really weird problem is that to launch gnome-terminal, I would like to use Alt+T, but no matter what I do, the only shortcut that works is Ctl+Alt+T.
None of these problems were there before 12.04!
please wait...
