Possible to remove background sound from movies?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 16, 2009
Folks is it possible to remove the background music that pops up in almost every movie at every action?
Am I the only one who thinks it's old-fashioned and annoying? e.g. in horror movies it's often the background music (symphony stuff) more scary than the movie itself. I'd like there to be a label on every movie DVD "warning: background orchestra used a lot to challenge you psychologically", or shorter "warning: sound brainwashing", you know..
[SOLVED] How to remove background in Cinnamon desktop
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 20, 2015
I'm trying to customize my Cinnamon desktop in Ubuntu and running into some difficulties. First off, I want to modify the background to a solid color, not an image. It appears I can set solid (or gradient) colors on the background settings tab, I can change the default background image with:
gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.background picture-uri file:///usr/share/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/good-night.jpg
but I can't seem to remove the background image altogether. I've been able to modify the cinnamon.css file, but the desktop background does not appear to be in there. I just want to get rid of the background image and just put a solid color. How?
Remove background color in image processing for OCR
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 7, 2012
I am trying to remove background color so as to improve the accuracy of OCR against images. A sample would look like below:
I'd keep all letters in the post-processed image while just removing the light purple color textured background. Is it possible to use some open source software such as Imagemagick to convert it to a binary image (black/white) to achieve this goal? What if the background has more than one color? Would the solution be the same?
Further, what if I also want to remove the purple letters (theater name) and the line so as to only keep the black color letters? Simple cropping might not work because the purple letters could appear at other places as well.
I am looking for a solution in programming, rather than via tools like Photoshop.

Want to remove Gimp 2.6 & install 2.8, but.....
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 16, 2012
I installed Gimp 2.6 via the Ubuntu Software Center (from one of the Gnome desktops). I'd like to install Gimp 2.8, but thought I should remove 2.6 1st. Since I now run Xubuntu alongside, I attempted to remove Gimp with the Software Center from Xfce. However, when I clicked "remove", a box popped up telling me,
"To remove GIMP Image Editor, these items must be removed as well: The gnome desktop enfironment, with extra components."
Does that mean what I think it means? If I try to removed Gimp 2.6 via the Software Center it will remove my Gnome desktops as well???
the gimp: animating a gif with a continuous background layer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 9, 2012
I have an animation I'm trying to make use the gimp, to be saved as a gif.
So I know about appended the time delay to the title of each layer/frame (50ms), and this works, great, except that the first layer/frame is special. It is the background for all the other frames which are mostly transparent.
Leaving the time off the frame doesn't seem to work (the backround briefly flashes then disappears each time the animation cycles).
I know I've done this before but just can't recall how it's done.
Would someone remind me please? Thanks in advance
