Gimp + Vector = ?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 23, 2009
Hello, i was wondering... why doesn't the gimp use vector graphics? They look so much better.
I thought of this because i drew a shape, tried to fill it in with a colour, but since the paint tool makes a line surrounded by pixels with less opacy, so they dont fill and i always have to paint over them.
I was just wondering.
Also, can anyone request an image editor similar to gimp that uses vector? (one that includes freehand paint, etc etc) ... besides inkscape, i don't really like it too much and some of the features lag for me.
GIMP and vector fonts

I'm creating an ad for a phone book and one of the requirements is that I'm supposed to use vector fonts. What are vector fonts? How do I use them with GIMP?
Any Vector Graphics Manipulation tool for GIMP?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 21, 2009
Is there a way I can manipulate or maybe convert images to vector graphics formats using GIMP? Is there an add-on or widget to add to GIMP?
I know it can be done in Inkscape but I am specifically asking about GIMP. So that I do not have to go all along this export and import thing and just standardize GIMP as a graphics manipulation tool.
Import vector graphics from PDF to GIMP
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I need to extract vector graphics from a PDF image and import them into GIMP, either as paths or as high-resolution raster images. Specifically, I need to get contour lines from USGS topographical maps and overlay them on satellite images. Any suggestions?
So far I have tried:
--Using GIMP's native PDF importing function to import them as raster images. Problem: To do so at high resolution crashes my computer. Possible solution would be to import only a selected area of a PDF, but as far as I can tell this is not possible.
--Using ImageMagick to convert the PDF to a raster image. Problem: Used with the "-scale" parameter, "convert" appears to rasterize the PDF and then upscale it, leading to a choppy image.
--Using InkScape to extract the necessary vector elements from the PDF. Problem: InkScape freezes when I try to open a moderately large (25 Mb) PDF.
Any other ideas?

Vector or Zenwalk?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 2, 2005
I'm running Ubuntu on a PIII / 733 / 128 with a 10GB hard drive.
My new WD 160GB hard drive came in yesterday, so I'm looking for a differnet Linux distribution because I feel that Ubuntu, even with swap space, is kind of taxing on my computer.
I'm looking at a Slackware-based distribution, specifically Vector and Zenwalk.
Which one do you think is a better fit for me? I like how Zenwalk comes with OpenOffice automatically, but I know that Vector is really nice on older computers.
Will Zenwalk run fine on my system?
