Gimp windows top inaccessible
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 5, 2012
Hi All,
Going bonkers with Gimp - I want to resize/reposition the windows but I can't access the top bar, they are behind the top bar of the Ubuntu Desktop.
Dumb situation, but would love some hints/advice.
And I seriously wish they would come up with a single window user interface, more like photoshop's UI. Who's with me?
Thanks!!!

HOWTO: autohide GIMP dock windows using gnome panel
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 7, 2008
Want to use the GIMP without having those docks clutter up your screen? Here's how you can have the GIMP's controls swallowed in a pair of autohidden Gnome panels so you have the whole screen available for the current document instead of wasting a third of it on controls. It also makes those controls available when you want them without having to hunt for them. When you quit the GIMP the panels will be removed, to be recreated on the next invocation of the GIMP...
Prerequisites: GIMP, Gnome, gnome-swallow-applet (from universe repo)
How it works
The Gnome panel can be configured through gconf. The way to do this from the command line is by using gconftool-2. This works but it is exceedingly tedious, except for those who relish in having to type in endless repetitive strings of redundant data. A helper script which can make this work slightly less tedious is attached to this posting.
To swallow X windows in the Gnome panel you can use the gnome-swallow applet. This applet ca

gimp menus on 14.04 windows
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 2, 2014
When I first load gimp 2.8.10, Ubuntu's option for placing menus on application windows works without a hitch. After a few minutes, however, the menus appear, but are "unclickable." I haven't determined whether this problem occurs with other applications.
Building a portable Gimp for windows?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 6, 2009
Does anybody know of a simple way to create a stand-alone executable of GIMP for Windows?
I need to do some photo editing at work (which runs windows exclusively). A photoshop license will take months to get approved and come through. I don't have permissions to install anything new and would really like to just bring a stand alone executable containing GIMP and all dependencies that I can stick on a USB pen anf bring in. Any tips?
As always, thankyou for your time.
Windows Gimp and UFraw help?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 20, 2009
My father uses a Nikon D50 camera and I am trying to set up GIMP to use UFraw so he can use the GIMP tools to edit the .NEF files. Currently when I open an .NEF file it can open it from GIMP's file>open but it just opens the image in UFRaw's standalone window/editor.
He is using Vista and hasn't tried giving Linux a chance, sorry..
How to install GIMP on Windows 7
location: linuxexchange.com - date: May 21, 2011
I was looking for any alternatives to Adobe Photoshop to install on my laptop. I downloaded GIMP but could not install on my Windows 7 (64 bit).
It says this file is corrupt. Is there no version available for Windows 7?
Any suggestions or alternatives?
Using gimp as server on windows
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 26, 2012
Here is my problem.
CONTEXT
I'm building a whole system to handle images processing in my company. We are processing .psd and .cr2 file making a whole lot of differents operations (like developping .cr2 file changing exposition building image architecture with layer and so on)
As we are very young (==> very small with limited budget) we do not have a computer dedicated to image processing. But we still need quite a lot of processing.
So what i did is:
I set up a NAS and then installed a little .AS3 deamon on the 3 computers of the company that have a photoshop (i just managed to do it in .as3 wich is a shame i know.
This program use the brand new "remote connection" in cs5.1 to control photoshop. Basicly the program just check in a queue if it has some work to do and if so it transmit the order to photoshop using a .jsx file.
At the end when we want to use a photoshop on a computer we just stop that deamon use photoshop and then reactivate it if we need some processing.
