grub error after 14.04 upgrade
- date: April 29, 2014
I have a dual boot Ubuntu Studio 13.10 dvd-amd46 / Windows 8 installation and have just completed the recommended upgrade to 14.04
On power-up the blue grub screen does not display and I get the following error message:
error: symbol 'grub-term-highlight-color' not found.
I have tried the following boot repair procedure:
insert ubuntu 13.04 disk and select try unbuntu
open 2 instances of terminal
at command prompt of first terminal type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
Select Recommended Repair
rename EFI files - yes
given lines pasted into command line of other terminal
completed without error
reference given: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7320970/
I have emailed the reference to [email protected]
and got a bounce back.
I still get the same error on startup - what action should I take?
GRUB geom error after 10.04 upgrade
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 22, 2010
Please help a Newbie out.
I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. Previously, I had a dual booting system where GRUB allowed me to boot 9.10 or WinXP. I have two hard drives - an 80 GB drive with XP and a 1 TB drive with Ubuntu.
During the upgrade I chose to upgrade my GRUB version. I only selected to install grub on the Ubuntu drive. I didn't work - I couldn't even get GRUB to load. It just gave the error: the symbol 'grub_puts_' not found.
So I reconfigured GRUB and installed it on both drives. Now GRUB loads and I can boot 10.04 just fine, but I can no longer boot XP.
What command should I run to give you a glimpse of my system? Would that help diagnose this?

Broadband mini bcm4311 does not function after 14.04 upgrade. Dell
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 14, 2014
Every time I do an upgrade the same ting happens. Old solutions don't seem to work. I an get online wired or by using a Edimax plug in, but noot with the built in Broadband. I would like an opinion before I make anything worse
Does this fix make sense??
first add this to your software repository (using synaptic for example)
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
then do the rest in a root termin (sudo -s)
apt-get install module-assistant wireless-tools
m-a a-i broadcom-sta
echo blacklist brcm80211 >> /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf
update-initramfs -u -k $(uname -r)
modprobe -r b44 b43 b43legacy ssb brcm80211
should be done
After 14.04 Upgrade Wifi does not coAfter 14.04 Upgrannect after suspend, ralink RT73
- date: April 21, 2014
Since my update to 14,04, my wifi chipset is unable to connect after a suspend.
In 13.10 i solved the same problem by writing SUSPEND_MODULES="rt73usb" in /etc/pm/config.d/load because the wifi chipset didn't wake up after suspend.
But in this case, with 14.04, the chipset is wake up, but completely unable to connect.

Unstable wifi connection after 14.04 upgrade
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 22, 2014
After I upgraded my PC to Ubuntu 14.04, the connection has been really unstable. The connection frequently drops, fails to connect, or is very slow. This does not occur in Windows 8. The result's to varunendra's scirpt that I have seen people using on this forum are attached. Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this, or at the very least diagnose the problem?
I also temporarily put the result of the script on pastebin in case you don't want to download the attached archive
Thanks in advance.
