What is a good 64bit hash function in Java for textual strings?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 3, 2010
I'm looking for a hash function that:
Hashes textual strings well (e.g. few collisions)
Is written in Java, and widely used
Bonus: works on several fields (instead of me concatenating them and applying the hash on the concatenated string)
Bonus: Has a 128-bit variant.
Bonus: Not CPU intensive.

Blackjack game 'double down' function
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 11, 2009
In the 'Blackjack' game that comes with the 9.04 distribution, 'double down' doesn't seem to work. Attempting to issue the relevant instruction (by pressing the 'd' key, selecting 'double down' from the drop-down menu, or double-clicking on a chip all simply issue a 'hit' instruction, without increasing the wager. Have I misunderstood something, or the function simply not work?

I use this command very often inorder to burn xbox games and it would be alot easier if i could just make a commannd line function where i pass it the location of the .dvd/.iso file.
growisofs -use-the-force-luke=dao -use-the-force-luke=break:1913760 -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/dvd=<LOCATION OF THE .ISO FILE>
was thinking it could work something like this

How to configure the Ubuntu remote desktop function to work as a "normal" VNC server?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 18, 2007
VNCserver allows us to have the desktop environment of the server machine on a remote machine, without interfering the server side desktop.
In Ubuntu 7.04, there is a default "remote desktop" utility, which have similar functions, but will interfere the user's desktop on the server machine, like the situation of VNC in MS windows.
How can I configure it to work like an "ordinary" VNC server?
