Help needed with Zorin OS 4 (linux)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 22, 2011
I have recently installed Zorin OS 4 64 bit, which reads as Ubuntu 10.10 in the system monitor. I guess it is just 10.10 with a visual pack installed.
Anyway, How would I go about getting the movie player to actually read a Movie DVD? Is it a plugin thats needed? Or another program?
thanks ahead of time for any help that you can provide.

OK, so there is the Linux kernel, being updated regularly (so far so good).
On top of it every Linux distribution is built, being updated to the most recent kernel, too.
But, when someone wants to port a specific linux distro, what does he do?
He cross-compiles the kernel (that ends in .tar.bz2) after he implements any patch?
Then what?
Here is my situation. I need to understand the process.
I see for example that for this board(arm architecture) an open embedded kernel has been built, but I also see that 2 supported distros for this board have different kernel.IMGs, as well as different (extra files, what I mentioned in the second sentence, which I don't know how it is called). If a developer wanted to port an other distro, would he use the preexcistent kernel.img and do "some magic tricks" with the rest of the files, put them on a SD and then his board would boot (with a lot of bugs waiting to be fixed), or would he need to: take the latest kernel source, apply the patches,
Linux git repository help needed
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 7, 2007
I am currently trying to get a slightly older copy of the linux kernel from the git repository at http://git.kernel.org/ (official link: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kerne....git;a=summary).
The most current version is 2.6.23-r2 in the git repository, but I'm looking for a way to get (git?) the 2.6.22 release. I'm currently using cogito instead of the normal git commands, but I have no problem using git if it'll get me the kernel branch I need.
Does anyone have any git/cogito experience and know how to get the older kernel?
The reason I want it as a git repository is because I have some changes that use the git repository format and I want to apply those. Any ideas?

Help needed browsing files on phone via Bluetooth
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 22, 2011
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) and I'm not able to browse files on my LG GS170 phone via Bluetooth. I *was* able to do so with Ubuntu 11.04, but I can't with Ubuntu 11.10. With Ubuntu 11.04, I was running the GNOME desktop. With Ubuntu 11.10, I'm running Unity 3D.
What happens is, after pairing the computer with the phone (both the computer AND the phone acknowledge the pairing), I click the "Browse Files" button in the Bluetooth settings to browse the files on the phone. My phone prompts me to accept the connection from the computer and I do. NO window opens on the computer side, so I'm not able to see the files on the phone!
I was able to do this with Ubuntu 11.04 and GNOME just fine. After choosing to browse files on the phone, a Nautilus window would open with folders on the phone and I could navigate around, etc.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks!
Peace...
epiphany browser (ver 3.4?) help needed. Basic usage
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 11, 2012
Greetings & salutations
I've wasted over an hour looking for help with epiphany browser, which must be the world's most difficult to use browser.
Note: I assume that I am running epiphany 3.4 because I am running 3.4.4-2 Arch
My questions are as follows:
1) How does one delete history in epiphany browser?
2) How does one selectively delete cookies in epiphany browser?
3) Does anyone know of a good tutorial for epiphany browser since google is of no help?
4) Can one configure ephiphany browser to look like a traditional browser, so that normal people who are not 'computer science' grad students can actually epiphany browser productively?
5) How does one access the "Personal data whatever" in epiphany browser?
Any help would be appreciated. Although I do run Arch (encrypted lvm dual booting with vista), I would appreciate non technical responses because you're talking to someone who cannot setup p3scan.
Thanks in advance!

Linux Thin Client Distro Help Needed Choosing
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 13, 2008
Hi,
We have a Windoze 2003 Terminal Server which our branches ( connect to through ADSL & access a database. We run XP RDP Sessions & this works well. The business own has decided he wants to utilize the 30 odd old PC's & Win TS CAL licenses he has bought & convert the PC's to Linux based Terminals.
The PC's have No OS on them and are a variety of PII's & PIII's having a min of 64 Meg of RAM & upto 256 on others.
We were looking for a very simple Linux distro that functions as an RDP client only. In other words a distro where we would download the ISO & burn it to CD and then Install it on the target PC. The PC once installed would boot to the RDP login screen only, Our Server IP & login Credentials could be entered once & saved.
We were interested in something that simple to setup up without any "Bloat" like ABBI WP or Open Office just the RDP Client only & did not require building our own "Cut down" distro someth
please wait...
