Help needed to virtualize an existing slackware server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 18, 2013
Hi all, not sure if this si the right place to ask but here it goes!
So I have been happily running Slackware on my home server for about 4 years now and considering the decent hardware that I have in that machine, I would like to virtualize it and add other virtual machines to eliminate the physical footprint and reduce electricity usage/heat generation.
The server is currently running slackware64-14 and uses several hard drives for storage etc.. Basically (not in details for now if its OK):
-sda & sdb are 2X 2TB with 4 RAID1 arrays (/boot /home / & has SWAP)
-sdc & sdd are assembled as a RAID0 array for temp folder and peformance read-write (eventually to be phased out for a fast SSD)
-sde sdf sdg sdh sdi sdj are 6X 2TB drives assembled as RAID5 with ZFS for permanent storage.
-sdk sdl sdm are drives mounted on hotswap enclosures for monthly backups.
The server currently uses a IBM M1015 SAS controller with SAS-SATA because the motheboars has only 6 SATA
expert help needed with bash and bc
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 20, 2005
hello everybody, i m writting a little bash script to render animations with BMRT 2.6.
The script replace a Keyword by the mathematical value issued from the valuestrat and the valueend , on a certain number of images we want.
I have a main problem, as bash is not treating the float caculations is that:
- using bc I have all the time an input error when i give bc float variables
-only bc is the problem, when we enter integer there is no problem
-i tried the eof way to code wich give same result
-i want to have the less dependencies and want to arrive to work only thruth bash and bc only, that the script can be use from any Linux machine without having any special dependencies or libraries to load
-by the way I use convert from Image magick to chang tiff generated in png, to assembl them under blender in AVI file
Thanks for your help

Darwin v 8.0.1 Shell help needed

Hi Darwinian's all,
K..... we are newbies to Darwin, and we need a slight amount of immediate hand holding. Ok... we have the Welcome to the 8.0.1 Install bit and prior to that all the blurb.
Below is Fedora Core 3's text console start of getting Open Darwin 8.0.1 to install into PearPC.
BELOW THE DOTTED LINE IS JUST A FEW LINES FROM THE POP UP WINDOW THAT IS GENERATED FROM PearPC and THE CD ROM Darwin 8.0.1 iso installer.
(unfortunately i had no easy way to copy/paste or grab the text ... that i could readily find - so i hand typed it into kedit from what we were seeing.)

I did a rm command to free some space, but after running
Code:

I noticed the free space hasn't changed. If someone knows how to free up some disk space, or fix this problem and get that space back (the files are gone, but the space isn't freed) please answer as quickly as possible.

[SOLVED] Help needed disabling TCP/UDP checksum offloading in Debian
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 12, 2011
Hi Guys,
I'm running the latest, fully patched release of debian virtualized on VMWare ESXi.
Unfortuantely my ESXi server is a whitebox, and I'm using a NIC that's not on the ESXi 'supported hardware' list.
As a result of this, I can't get any connectivity inside of my Guest OSes until I disable TCP/UDP checksum offloading on the network adapter from within the Guest OSes. In windows, this is easily accomplished by right click > properties on the NIC inside of device manager.
How can I do it on a Debian system with no X?
TIA!
please wait...
