I had shrinked volume on windows 8 to create a partition and installed ubuntu 12.04 after creating boot and home partition. But now on selecting windows from the boot menu i am getting "error: no such partition" error. i can boot in to ubuntu. I have backed up windows 8. i tried restoring windows 8 and again installing the ubuntu 12.04. Still seeing the same error. I tried using the boot-repair after booting in to ubuntu with usb. The boot-repair gave a like "http://paste.ubuntu.com/7189943". i see only one partition with "sudo fdisk -l" output. But i see all the partition with the gparted software. I have attached screenshot of gparted.
$ sudo fdisk -l

Getting ERROR "no valid devices were found ..." on Installation of RedHat Linux 9
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 30, 2006
I have recently purchased my HP Pavilion dv2000 Notebook.
It already had Windows XP installed on it. Now, I want to make it dual boot with Redhat Linux 9 to be installed on it. On an attempt to do so I got below error-
"An error has occurred-no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem"
FACTORY CONFIGURATION of NOTEBOOK
In its factory settings HDD (80 GB in Size) had 2 partitions. Both partitions were primary, one conatined Windows XP and was of NTFS type(65+ GB). Other partition (10+ GB) was of FAT32 type and contained PC Recovery software provided by HP.
I had to modify the partition to fit Linux on to it. I modified partitions using Partition Magic 8 for windows.
Reallocated partiitons were 1. Windows XP partition(25 GB)
2. PC Re4cover partioned remained untouched (10+GB)
3. Rest was RAW -Unallocated partition.
NOTE: I have checked my media disk. Its perfectly
[ C++ ] String error ( no match for ‘operator+’ in ‘std::operator+ ).
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 22, 2009
imagePrefix is a string ( eg., "image", "picture" )
imageExtension is a string ( detected from the given file name, eg. ".jpg", ".png" )
i is an integer, incremented by a for loop
Any ideas, what this error means and how to avoid ( fix ) it ?
string newImgName = imagePrefix + "_" + i + imageExtension;

Linux Mint 17.1 MATE blinking cursor error, no grub menu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 3, 2015
Hello, when I boot linux mint mate 17.1 from my live cd usb, it works perfect (no internet connection for some reason?) I install it successfully all is good untill I reboot. I get my bios screen like any other OS but then I go straight to a blinking cursor screen. control alt delete still reboots the system but there is no button I havent tried to push/hold down to try to get open a grub menu. There is a fix that seems to work for some people (located at bottom) but since i get it to connect to my wireless internet it doesnt work for me. Thanks in advance for all help! P.S I do have an AMD processor and a radeon hd 5450 graphics card if that's relevant. Thanks for all help!
