How do I clear my log files? Don't want my custom LiveCD to have my passwords on it!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 22, 2008
Hi
Just wondering how to clear my logs?
Pretty sure they are all stored in /var/log
Once in the past, I completely deleted via command line both my tmp directory and my log directory using the rm -r command.
Then after I had made sure that they were gone, I recreated the directories using the mkdir command.
Still haven't been able to get that computer to boot up!!!
It was Ubuntu 8.04 BTW...
So anyways, back on topic, what I need to do is clear all logs (and tmp directory, though I think that's deleted at poweroff).
Including firefox logs.
Please tell me how to do this.
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy
PS: I don't know how much Ctrl+Shift+Del does... I tick all the boxes of course...

How do I clear screen in terminal
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 19, 2013
I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 on a VMware virtual machine installed on my Mac for about three days now.
In terminal on the Mac there is command-K which clears the screen; I really like it.
I'm using the Terminal application that came with Ubuntu.
From the GUI menu I see "Reset." But when I go to the keyboard shortcuts part of the Terminal app, it says "Disabled" next to "Reset."
How can I enable a keyboard shortcut to clear or reset the screen?
Thank you.

How do I clear the console in BOTH Windows and Linux using C++
location: linuxexchange.com - date: November 3, 2008
I need a cross platform solution for clearing the console in both Linux and Windows written in C++. Are there any functions in doing this? Also make note that I don't want the end-user programmer to have to change any code in my program to get it to clear for Windows vs Linux (for example if it has to pick between two functions then the decision has to be made at run-time or at compile-time autonomously).

How do I clear/delete the current line in terminal?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
If I'm using terminal and typing in a line of text for a command, is there hotkey or anyway to clear/delete that line?
For example, if my current line/command is something really long like:
> git log --graph --all --blah..uh oh i want to cancel and clear this line <cursor is here now>
Is there a hotkey or command to go from the above to:
>
?
Usually I will press the down key and if my current line is a brand new one on the history, that will clear it. But if I'm going through my command history via the up key and start editing or using those commands, down will only change the prompt to the next newest command in history, so it doesn't work here unless I press down multiple times.
Thanks!

How to clear cache memory in RHEL4?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 20, 2008
Hi All,
I am using RHEL4. When I give the free command. It gives following output.
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 32710352 6168032 26542320 0 144216 5464628
-/+ buffers/cache: 559188 32151164
Swap: 2040212 0 2040212
Here it seems cache memory occupies 5GB of memory.
Can anyone tell me how to clear this cache memory?
