[SOLVED] How do I get my sound card to work on Ubuntu 13.04?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2013
I had been using Ubuntu 10.10 in a dual boot/operating system with Windows XP for the last two years, but recently it would not boot, and I reinstalled it. However, since 10.10 was no longer supported, I could not get programs to load. So, I had to upgrade, and decided to install the most current version which is 13.04. I was never able to get my sound card to work as it should in 10.10, and would only deliver about half the volume level I get from Windows XP. But when I installed 13.04, I have been unable to get any sound at all. I know that my wiring and plug-ins are correct because it works great in XP. I have done considerable research on the Internet to get my sound card to work, but nothing I have read and tried works. For example, I tried 'alsamixer' at the Terminal command line, and when I explicitly followed the simple directions, it didn't make any difference.
The brand/manufacturer of my sound card is Creative Labs. I have seen their sound card products in most e
How to enable duplex printing on HP 7610 with Linux (Ubuntu 13.04)
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I have equipped my HP 7610 printer with the duplex extension, but the configuration dialogs of Ubuntu and Kubuntu still have the duplex option greyed out. Even re-installing the printer does not help. It seems the printer doesn't tell the computer that it is capable of duplex printing now, still the same configuration is used.
Is there a way of enabling duplex printing for this model?
Would it help to add somethig to the PPD file? What would this extension look like?
How do I set up a wired internet connection. AMD 64bit ubuntu 10.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 14, 2010
I have had the exact same set up 10.04 on the same machine connecting to the net with no problems. I had upgraded from an earlier version.
This time with a fresh install from disk the network manager does not see any connections. How can I get the manager to recognise the network and connect to the net?
I realise that it would help if I posted up the output of some commands in a terminal but I am writing this on my phone and can not cut and paste large chunks of text. I can only hope for some advice until I can get to a computer with a working connection.

How to Set up Sprint EVDO Wireless Internet Card in Ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 3, 2008
I am not sure where to post this, but I just managed to install a Sprint wireless usb evdo internet card on my fiancee's laptop using an easy tutorial directly from Sprint.
I had tried several of the other tutorials out there, the ones that used gnomePPP and added scripts to your system, and this one is "really" easy and it works. The only change I would make to it is instead of going to Add/Remove programs to install KPPP, I would go straight to synaptic and get it there, to make sure you don't get the KPPP4, which I could not get to work.
I did get an error on the first step of modprobing usbserial (said it was already loaded), but I continued tofollow the tutorial step by step and it installed so easily!
Here is the link to the tutorial (a pdf file):
It actually works quite well, and as a result of this card my n00b fiancee is now attempting to switch to Ubuntu

How to set up the Machine Type (archid) for Linux Kernel Arm CrossCompile
location: linuxexchange.com - date: September 5, 2013
I would like to know how to set the correct MACH_TYPE or arch_id for the kernel. I searched and found at least 2 references where the kernel would hang at "Starting Kernel ... ". These came with the same answer. Correctly set your Machine Type. But then neither mentions how to do so. Anyone know how to do this?
Pretty good explanation for the hang. and Another good description.
Both of these are close to what I am experiencing when I try to boot my kernel. It gets stuck on "Starting Kernel..." and won't continue. I have built the kernel several times from .configs that were supposed to be exactly for my model.
Timesys (LinuxLink) provides a .config that is supposed to match the kernel that they provide with their free build service. But that doesn't work either. If I use their pre-built kernel it boots up no problem. So I know it is not my u-boot or how I have configured my SD-card. The problem must come from the kernel build.
I run my make like: make ARCH=arm CROSS_COM
